Leon cupra TDI.

I havent changed one of theses paper filters before and im not sure if i need a special tool to undo the strap that secures the oil filter cap on.

Also, where is the filter!!! lol

Pella 6000 arrived today so i was hoping to get the oil changed this evening...

So, do i need ay extra tools?

Beautiful thanks very much  :)

What does the cap do exactly? Does it fit over a notch allowing it to turn? If so will mole grips not do the same job?

you can use an adjustable spanner or a pair of adjustable grips but has already been mentioned you can round out the top. i always used a an adjustable spanner on my saxo which was the same type of filter.

32mm socket will do the job to ;) or 1.25" imperial as per my socket set

Not on these engines. This is a 1.9 engine, and needs the 76mm cup wrench to avoid damage to the oil filter housing cap.

Got one of these but couldnt get the cap off. Only got a small area to work with on the turn but it was bloody solid. Any suggestions?

Don't really understand you. The cup wrench comes with a hole for a 3/8 socket drive. Nobody outside a workshop has 3/8 socket handles, but it is relatively easy to get 3/8 to 1/2 adapters. The filter cap points straight up, one extender and you are in free air above the engine bay, no restrictions whatsoever?

I have, and i dont have anything to do with a workshop!!
My smallest extender has gone walkies so the long one isnt ideal.

Ill have another go today and see if i can get the darn thing to budge!

Well, i got it sorted, my torque wrench has a converter socket so i got the cap off! Bit of extra length won the day!

Checked my oil before the change and it was on the lowest level on the dipstick. Out came the new pella 6000 and i got 4 litres out!

Changed the filter and put in 4l of nice shiny oil and the dipstick says its overfilled! GAH, how is that possible???

Well:

1) You're supposed to use the dipstick to measure the oil and stop when its full :)

2) The filter housing and oilways will be empty, start the engine and idle it for a minute or two, then look at the dipstick again. But you shouldn't overfill to start with, rather, fill to the mark, run, then top up.

the exact same thing happen to me... maybe the hatched area is from the top so you never actually run out of oil? makes us panic thinking there is not much oil in there so we act quick :cartman:
