I have all the bits installed in my car, just want to know is it worth re-installing or is it now outdated and I am better off junking the remnants left?

I think it's quite good, but for the price of 1 years subscription you can pic up a farily decent sat-nav that will last a lot longer than a year..

Still pretty useful as a hands-free mobile kit though..

Thanks, can the hands free be used without the satnav, and does it have to be hard wired to the mobile?

You should've got a phone number with your car for the smartnav. so all you do is set your mobile to divert to the smartnav. It only works for incoming calls though.

That part of the unit still functions without subscription.

The guy sold it to me with no knowledge of the system, it still has the buttons and windscreen attachments, it has now got me thinking!!!!!

Ah right.

To be fair it has some really good features that you can subscribe to in addition to the navigation side, such as speed camera alerts, and Vehicle Tracker System via RAC Trackstar.

I think its £109 for the year or £10 per month for the standard navigation package.
or £190 or £17 per month for navigation plus either Speed cameras, Tracker or eurpoean navigation.
or £250 to 22 per month for navigation plus 2 or the 3 options above etc
upto £310 or £27 per month for everything.

Like i said before though for £250 these days you can get quite a good stand-alone satnav system, (which was what i did instead) I guess f you needed to get a tracker on your car for insurance purposes or something it becomes more attractive.

I think if you are the new owner of the car you can press the button by the handbrake and if you tell them you are a new owner you get a month's free trial.

Have a look on smartnav.com for the details, I guess if you press the button and speak to them they will be able to tell you the phone number for the unit.

Is the unit removable for security purposes?

Have to admit, I don't like subscriptions so will probably not go for that, is it useable in anyway with out subs?

Many thanks will give them a bell about using hands free!!!

Not really, the unit is hard-wired so all you can do really is unclip the holder from the vents, unscrew the untit from the holder and tuck it up under the dash or somewhere.

It's only really useable for receiving diverted calls, that about it from what i can remember.

We used to fit these to BMW's but havent fitted one for a long time now, we do however fit the trackstar units which are basically a smart nav with a GPS/GSM antenna and no buttons.
Smartnav's have advantages and disadvantages really. Every time you want to go somewhere you have to call them up, I find when contacting them to comission the trackstars that sometimes it can take 3-4 attempts to get them to answer. Also when Ive used a smart nav before they have on occasions sent me the wrong destination which isnt ideal. Obviously with a hand held unit you can have a look at the itinery yourself and weigh up what it involves.

Regarding the receiving calls, i wasn't aware this was possible but can't see why not, I would imagine the number to divert to would be the number of the smart nav unit itself which contains an O2 sim card, an easy way to find the number would be to put it into a handset and call your mobile or something.

Do you know where they usually install the unit on the Leon?

I dont but my guess would be behind the glovebox but im not sure how much room there is there. The unit itself is prbably about 15cm square and about 1.5 cm thick. You could follow the wires from the button or speaker back to the unit.
