Squeeky Gearstick

This is probably one of those questions i'll get slated for but....

My gearstick has recently started squeaking - like a plastic-y sound in 1st & 2nd / sometimes 3rd - is this a sign of an underlying problem or is it a job for WD40?

i think it´s problem with clutch plate you have to change it... on many cars after 150 - 200 000km driven but for example on opel vectra after 300 000...i know that sound we have the same problem on old car.... but it may be something else

more likely just the mechanism at the base of the gear stick. not expensive to replace the whole lot i dont think. take the gaiter off and have a closer listen. could try wd-40.
