Cruise Control gone

52 plate TDI 110 SE Toledo. Cruise control has stopped working: press the left stalk button to set the cruise speed, lift foot, car slows down! No warning lights and no other indications/symptoms. Car has just been serviced (40K).

Anybody got any clues, or an idea where I might start looking? Don't think it can be a big problem, but would rather diagnose/fix myself if I can.

Only mod, EGR disabled (by unplugging the electrical connector) but its been like that since I got the car

I would get VagCom on it mate, see if it throw up anything..

Only thing I can think of has got to be the switch on the stalk, try cleaning it, only thing I can think of.

I had a weird thing on my V5 where the cruise stopped working.

Mine was sorted out by resetting the throttle body, which the dealer sorted out. I am sure someone with VAG-COM could do this though.

No, I hadn't thought of the brake pedal switch in connection with cruise control - I've seen it mentioned as a cause of glowplug light fault indications - fuel system faults - but not for cruise. I'll have a butchers and see if it's been knocked out of position. If not, how should I check it - AVO and check for open/short on the contacts as the pedal is pressed?

Yep, very annoying. I'll see what I can do to disassemble the stalk switch, but just getting to it requires double-jointed fingers

This may be the fault that makes it worthwhile to shell out for a VAG-COM lead - I bet it would cost me as much to get a dealer or independent to fix the problem.

Have you checked your brake lights? When one of my side/brake lights died (both filaments) I was left with no cruise and couldn't figure out until I checked the bulbs and it had gone. Replaced and was fine.

Check the garage hasn't replaced a side light/brake light with a single connection build (380 as it should have 382 iirc) as this causes the same syptoms

Now That is worth knowing, and I'll check the stop/tail lights when I get home. I'll post the results, especially if it's a fix

hi mine did the same on my 110 tdi took it to the garage they plugged the vag-com into it .no faults showing, they changed the cruise/ indicator arm now working fine,( faulty switch)

I've just joined this forum to see if anyone else had this same problem (among others). Took the car on hols last week and cruise control packed in as I starred the long motorway leg. If you find out the probelm/solution I'd appreciate the info. I'm assuming it is a faulty switch on the the stalk as I saw it on another forum as being an issue.

There is also a switch on the clutch pedal as depressing the clutch also shuts off the cruise control. I heard they're only about a tenner for the clutch pedal switch.

It was the clutch pedal switch on mine, discovered by the service center who plugged the diagnostic reader in and told me the results, then sold me a switch.

The switch was the only one they had in stock, and they said it may not be the correct one. It wasn't, but the difference between the two that are listed for my car is mainly in the connector housing - the switch contacts and functions are the same and it plugs in to the pedal support just the same. So after checking this, I cut away the housing on the new switch until the old connector would fit, and it's worked fine ever since.

Depending on the switch you get, the installation procedure requires a certain amount of care. I used the guide on VW Vortex which kept me from breaking the new switch
