hello

just been having a read on the badger 5 page and am wanting to buy front disks and pads for my LCR.

my question is really, what is the benefit in the EBC ultimax over the plain EBC ones?

i am set on the ds2500's as they are on it now and am very happy?

currently i have not done any trackdays in it but may do if my little track toy brakes??

is it really worth the extra or is it really just a looks benefit??

not keen on changing calipers but do fancy an upgrade the disks if its worth it

thanks in advance

The 2 piece discs are fantastic braking a a fair bit of weight saving too (6kgs instead of 9.5kgs) . If your not thinking of stretching to the 2 piece I would go for the EBC plains with eliptically grooved by Bill

Im running EBC Ultimax and red stuff pads, and I cannot fault either of them!

There is a mixed opinion on EBC pads but you go with what you know. I did a lot of thinking and one of the reasons I settled on this set up was the price, didnt pay much ;)

Cost is a bit of an issue at the minute to be honest, but i am not prepared to sacrifice good braking for the sake of £50 or so, I really do fancy the look of the ebc ultimax but are they any good?

What do they wear like as opposed to plain ones etc? what is the advantage of elliptically grooved? Or is this also a looks thing?

What are the two piece disks you talk or? Are these the ones with the separate bell housing? Do you have any pics/prices etc?

Thanks for all advice

efr 6758 here i come
like i say mate im using the ebc ultimax groved an they look smart an the braking is really good, not sure about plain ebc an hot to sure what groves do this is what found on website

EBC Ultimax Brake Discs The latest super quiet slot pattern for prestige and premium cars requiring discs that are almost totally silent featuring the latest chemically applied corrosion resistant black finish. This black coating has been tested with the industry standard salt spray test and proven to last anywhere between 2 and 5 years depending on conditions and represents the ultimate in disc rust prevention. Please note: The illustration shows a disc after it has been used for a period of time and the pad has rubbed off the black coating in the braking area.

Features

Wide aperture grooves prevent dirt build up and aid cooling
Black anti-corrosion coated castings offers EBCs best corrosion resistance ever
Quiet slot pattern
Increased lifetime over standard parts

i have the ds2500 pads an im happy with setup for kind of driving i do. :D

Just PM or call Bill. I'm pretty sure they are priced the same as the ellipticaly grooved ones but imo these look better and I'll be getting myself a set in the next few months or so. Hilla_LCR seems pleased with them. I'm sure once all bedded in fully he'll give a verdict.

The grooves resurface the pads to give a nice new pads surface for every braking application. These also allow the gases produced on braking to escape easier. Now the EBC Ultimax's grooves aren't complete so don't resurface the whole pad and don't allow the gases to escape.
I wasn't overwhelmed with the EBC Ultimax discs but am with the 2 piece ones. These are more expensive to buy initially but one you have the bells all you need when replacing after this is new bolts and rotor which is about the same cost as the one piece rotors

how much are disks then???

would you see the 8 groove disks done by Badger 5 better than ebc then? or is the grooving thing not really worth the extra?

cheers

As above I would suggest the EBC plains with the 8 Eliptically grooves on them. These are about the same price as the EBC Ultimax's. Approx £230
The 2 piece set is about £700 to buy initially but once bought it'll be £15 for bolts and £150 for the rotors each side.

thanks mate, you have been a real help.

the £700 it a bit too pricey for me tbh, wont be driven hard enough to warrent that kind of money. may go that way in the future perhaps??

eliptical disks are uni-directional, no left or right hand.. they also by nature of an elipse, have effective grooves leaning in all directions, both fwd and rev to wheel rotation. They are quiet in operation.

8 groove I think is more aggressive, but sided, and conmetically "different" not performance 'different'

Hello bill

i am about to phone you when i can make my mind up which one i should get..lol

Based on performance is there any difference, when daily driving and when pedaling a bit harder

based upon quiteness and pad wear??

if they are pretty much the same i prefer the 8 grooved ones but if there is a reaon to go for the others i may go for them

cheers
