Car Wash Scratches and 1.2 Whine

Hi everyone,

Foolishly about 9 months ago, I took my car through a Car Wash and a couple days later under bright light found scratches all over my Car bonnet and a few wings of my shiny Red Ibiza. To be frank, I was pretty upset with myself as stupid me didn't know the dangers of the everyday car wash.

I've been living with it for a while now, but it's getting to a point where I really want to just spend some cash and get it sorted to bring back that amazing Ibiza Red in all it's glory.Does anyone have some recommendations on how I can get rid of the scratches? I've tried basic T-Cut and unless I am not applying it right, it's doesn't work. Any tricks to get it sorted? If it comes down to it, I would be willing to go to the Dealers about this but would anyone have a rough guide price as to how much it would cost to fix? Looking at it tonight, the worst area's that I would want done is the Bonnet, both rear wings and the boot. Front & Back bumpers seem to be OK. (MK4 Ibiza Sport Reference 1.2 Red).

Next thing on the list, is my car is only a 1.2 (regret not getting a bigger engine! ) tends to whine a lot at low Revs which is a shame for a car which looks so sporty! Has anyone managed to resolve the whining, or is it something I will have to stick with? I really don't want to go down the whole Exhaust system route, I like sporty looking cars but not a loud 1.2 that is louder than an Aston Martin DBS!

the paint work needs correcting mate. a polish with a machine will do it, have a search for a local detailer/proper valeter in your area. take a look in the car care and detailing section of the site.
i don't know anything about the 1.2 engine though.

is it a 1.2 12v?? and what year is it ?

you will need a full correction process on your bonnet, imo a machine will be needed to remove swirls and marring.

i use menzerna p085rd 3.02 and 85rdFF on both polishing and finishing pads on my ibiza an their combo is more than ample enough to remove the defects.

It sounds like it's definately possible then to remove the scratches, I will look into your suggestion of kit 'FR-TDi' but if it looks too serious I would rather a professional looked at it than myself. If I was to get a Dealer to do the work, does anyone have a rough price to go by? I will take a look into the Car Care section later tonight!

to be honest if it were me doing a full ibiza bonnet id be looking to charge £50-£60 to machine defects and replace LSP, with full preperation work beforehand

Not as much as I was thinking then! I will send an e-mail to my local dealer tomorrow, and see what prices they can give me for getting the work done. Will give everyone an update, just in-case it's of interest to anyone else.

Meanwhile, anyone got any suggestions to sort the Whine out?

Machine polishing is not something I'd be attempting on my own car without some practice beforehand, so I wouldn't recommend you do either. If you want to have a go yourself, try to get some scrap panels from a scrapyard or something so you can practice without fear of burning through your paint. Doing that will result in a respray to fix it!

A dealer wouldn't be your best bet either IMO, try a pro valeter or detailer in your area as mentioned already...

As for your engine whine, I have a 1.2 12v (2004) and have got a K&N 57i induction kit for it, does sound a little loud when flooring the poor thing, but it does stop it sounding like a milk float at low revs.

I'll second this. Except mine seems to like being revd. It just complies with everything i ask it to do.

mate i know how you feel i took my car to some garage ot my local tesco and the stuff they pur o my wheels they left it on for to long and up the plastic center caps.. was not happy whe i saw what they had done..

In the past couple days I have been searching around looking for a near Detailer to get the work done for me.

I have found one company called 'Joe's Detailing Services' who are based in Bristol (I am in Taunton) who have said they will do a Valet & Detailing on the paintwork (level 2) for £255 including VAT & Travel.

From general searches, they seem to have excellent reviews. Would you say £255 is a good price roughly for the work? Also a long shot, but has anyone had any experience with this company before?

To be honest as far as modification goes you might aswell save your dollar at the moment and then trade the 1.2 in for something with a bit more grunt.

As far as the car wash goes I did the same thing.
I had a 1.2 Ibiza in Red started with CE05 < Didn't buy it did you hehe. I drove it hard everywhere and didnt treat the exterior well. So I decided to trade it in for a 08 1.9TDI Sportrider beautiful car in Metallic black magic, I took it through Morrisons car wash and it raped my car, Front and back.

That point I decided the worst thing I'll do to my next one is Jetwash!
Traded that in for a Cupra a few weeks back thinking I was moving closer to work... thats all gone tits up now so... I'm spending a fortune in fuel but the powers worth it.

In heinsight if you travel over 15 miles to work, and then 15 miles back. Trade in your 1.2 for a derv it makes sense.

If your determined to stick with the 1.2 however, Try a machine polish and if its really bad Respray

I love the look of my Ibiza, wouldn't change it for the world but I definately want something with more power for my next car. Currently saving up for either a MK5 Golf GTi or the 2.0 TDI MK6.

I'm only 21, so I would rather save up and get something even better than my Ibiza! But for now, having my 1.2 is allowing me to save up a lot of cash every month ready to move on to things even better.

My thinking is that I pay enough for the Car as it is now, so I would rather have it perfect than driving it every day knowing it's not as "perfect" as it could be.

You might be able to get a Identicle cupra to your current 1.2!
Golfs are expensive and slower than the ole cupra when modded

Just read through your post mate, just a quick, and much cheap suggestion! Have you tried some AutoGlym super resin polish? I picked up my 1st Ibiza on Weds last week, in metallic black and you could see on the bonnet and the wings where someone had used a machine polisher and left loads of swirls and hazing, so thought I would have a go with the SRP after hearing great reviews on DW. And to my supprise, all gone! Obviously it only fills the scratches and has very limited correction! But has worked for me, and should imagine yours will be about the same from a car wash!!!
