Right, driving home from work tonight, started the journey as normal, TCS off and nice slow driving until she was up to temp. Drove hard'ish down a duel carriage way then broke hard for a speed camera ( testing the brembos out), all fine. Then almost home and went to pull away quickly and went into limp mode, no boost at all, did get a strange burning smell, been doing this for a while but think it just my clutch. Went to turn the TCS back on and now it wont go off! Sounded what can be described as a slight grinding sound when i pulled away slowly off a speed bump, thats when limp mode started :(

Been searching the forum and could be one of a few things....

1) MAF dieing or dead?
2)ABS sensor or pump?

Working all day tomorrw and need the car to be working... going to try and unplug the MAF and see if that has any effect. I know the next best thing is to get it on VAG com and scan for errors.

Anyone shed any light if they have experianced a similiar problem?

thanks

Sounds like could be either of the two id go more with abs though...check your fuses aswell iirc from what i have read fuse number 8 a red one...could explain the burning smell maybe...but without vag-com pretty much guesing mate...

Will try unplugging the MAF on my lunch break....when you say fuse 8, are those the fuses ontop of the battery or under the steering wheel? No ABS light on this morning on the driving to work, it never came on,at all though, TCS light still on though and shes still in limp mode.

Right did abit of investigating, as im at work and dont have any tools i couldnt unplug the MAF, but had a good rumage around the engine bay and found something interesting.

May have found out what the burning smell is... when looking at the engine head on, there was a wire coming out of the 3rd coil pack (3rd fom left to right), this wire has a black block on it, the wire was resting on the manifold and as totally burnt through the wire. Cant see what it could have been connected to though.

Got the part number from it and it reads:

028 906 283 f apg(or the g could be a 6)

Put the part number into the parts number thread and didnt get anything back

Any ideas anyone? Still in limp mode with TCS light on:cry:

All fuses are fine....so can eliminate that...got to be whats in the above thread, plus the MAF usually gives signs before it goes and mines not been doing that.

Anyone?

Cheers for that mate! Very helpful indeed. So tomorrow i have the afternoon off.... will unplug the maf first and try that... if that fails i'll look at fuse 8 under the steering wheel and see if thats gone, then a mate will help me VAG com it on sunday, if its still in limp mode i'll have to tkae it to the garage on monday :(

popped to Halfrauds and helped myself to one, replaced it with a slighty beefer one and hey presto, TCS light off and limp mode is a thing of the past!

This is the other little problem......

Starting to get annoying now! The same fuse went again tonight on the drive home from work. Only seems to go when i turn the TCS off and give it then beans in 1st and 2nd gear. Will change the fise again to a stronger one and see what happens. :(
