I have hankered after one of these for a while - facelift on an 06 or more recent. I had looked into a diesel, but quite like the idea of a petrol turbo to replace my 2.0 Sport.

Can anyone give me any pointers please?

Also what does DBW on the engine type mean - I am fascinated.

BTW I only do 12,000 motorway miles a year so definitely wouldn't be stressing mechanicals so to speak and really doesn't justify a 1.9 PD IMO.

Sorry didn't make myself clear. It would certainly be the FR.

Any good generally or should I be looking out for pitfalls?

From a 2.0 sport the FR 20vt 150 is going to feel quite quick and torquey, I used to have one and it went very well. low 40's MPG on a cruise down the motorway at 70 too.

The Cupra 180 is even quicker but for me the ride was OTT and too hard.

You will like either, trust me.

The 1.8T 20V engines are one of the best engines ever made :)

you can easy return 35-40mpg on a motorway run.

DBW=Drive By Wire, as in no throttle cable. Throttle baddy is controlled electricly.

Haave a look through my thread, link bellow in my sig.

I have an FR 20VT and I have no complaints so far. Just check the usual things like full service history and no odd noises/rattles/squeaks on a test drive. The engine is pretty bullet proof as its been in lots of other VAG cars over the years!

I have seen one that I fancy from a main dealer. Hope that I might be able to do a deal.

Remaps certainly do it for me. We would be a 2 Ibiza family as mine will be passed down to GF. It has been detailed since new and I can't bear the thought of it going elsewhere.

Would rather get rid of her older Focus which is starting to feel its age.

Custom Code is 10 miles away and they have service the 2.0 Sport for the last three years.

I can certainly imagine sending it there to have it done. Just need to find a good one. I have been looking at all sorts, Golfs, Fabias, A3s etc but the Ibiza has been perfect (well until the Engine management light came on for what appeared to be no reason - any ideas on a postcard please as it's running fine?) Can't really see a reason to change from what I already know.

I am a man of habit. Had the 106gti last and want to go back to more power, but more reliable power. The 106 was always in the garage.

Thanks for the help chaps.

Your EML might have been your coolant temp sender. Mine went on my old Cupra, the EML came on but the car ran fine. Vag com it to be sure.

Appreciated. Car is due a service so I'll let JBS do it for me.

Guess that it is ok to run as it is. Engine temperature still appears to be fine on the dash.

As a final request could someone let me know how much tax is. On my sport the Gov't says emissions are 187g blah blah but V5 says 185g so falls into a much lower bracket £40 quid saving per year.

Could someone have a look at their V5C or give me a clue please?

Perhaps it's because different cars produce different emissions. Thanks for the input chaps.

I emailed a SEAT garage with regards to a car, but no answer, typical dealer attitude i suppose, can't even buy a car now!!
