The easiest way to answer your question would be to ask what your annual mileage is like.

If you are doing 18-20k+ miles a year then the diesel makes sense. If less then maybe the petrol. Do you do a lot of motorway miles?

Both are great cars, and the diesel variant has a fantastic engine (even coming from a man who avoids the mucky stuff - satans black wind). Far more torque than the petrol in standard form, but then if your a modder the petrol can be improved a bit.

Bit of a pink or brown question really, both are alright, but it depends what you want out of it in the long term.

Yeah I'd guess it all depends what sort of mileage you'll be doing, diesel has the advantage of good town mpg as well as motorway cruising, whereas petrol can be costly around town, but decent on a motorway run!

1.8T engine has a few more tuning possibilities but the PD160 diesel doesn't need much to really gets some decent figures produced.

Oh and the Seat Sport strut brace is not standard, can be picked up new from dealers for about £50 iirc. They are always popping up second hand though.

I've never, Ever seen a white cupra. Not even on here.
They probably exist! I've just never seen one!!!

I do about 10,000 miles a year so I went for a derv.
Now I do less than 4 miles a day... and I've still got the diesel!
That turbo and that torque is so nice, The engine sound however is a bit meh.

The mileage however is redonkulous.
I did 155 miles the other day and the tank was still Full on the guage

lmao! post of the year :D

but yeah if you are looking for a mk4 cupra (or fr in my case) in candy white you will have a job, they are hard to find. most of the candy whites tend to be S, SX and eco models. shame really as its the only colour i really like

If you can stretch a bit more on your budget, i did see a really good 56 plate Cupra Tdi for £8000 from a dealer on the used car parts of the SEAT website, seemed well kitted to cruise control and the luxery pack as well, car had done about 35k and was in the Zenith Grey colour.

I'd go diesel nowadays as it makes a tad more sense if you doing over 50 miles a day, when i was doing 30 miles a day i had a lil 1.4 sport and it was a riot, now im doing 80 miles and my TDi FR is perfect as i have that low down wallop you can only ever get fron a TDi, also mileage is insane!! got 480 miles on a full tank!!! (FR 130 TDi btw)

10,000 a year is nothing - 12,000-14,000 a year is average.

It's only when you get closer to 20,000 that diesel starts to make sense - I'm doing around 24,000 a year - hence the diesel.

To the OP - good choice on the petrol - the diesel engine is great, but the limited rev range can be tiresome sometimes - especially on the twisties - you seem to spend all your time changing gear!

I'd love to return to petrol myself for this reason, but as mentioned above, with my mileage it's just not practical

My FR diesel was £5600...

It'd be a bloody good find to get hold of a Cupra at that price.

Get a diesel, then head down to P-Torque... You won't regret it!
