Replacing downpipe on LCR

Hi,

I got my new exhaust system half fitted. Just trying to figure out how to get to the bolts on the downpipe to take it off. I have a had a look and cant see a way of getting to them.

Anyone know how ?

you mean where the downpipe unbolts from the car or the turbo?

On the turbo you have 3 studs and nuts holding the downpipe on, to get to the top one remove the charge pipe and things around that area to get to it, you will probably need a a small ratchet or stubby spanner, i used a ratchet with a flexy head. then then other ones have to be removed from underneath the car. if you remove the driveshaft shield, and the lower strut brace which goes across the subframe you can get your hand up there with the small flexy ratchet.

even after you have got all the downpipe bolts out you wont be able to get it down without remove the two 13mm bolts holding the bracket on, doubtfull that you will get the rubber off and its quicker to remove the bolts.

the downpipe still wont come out and heres the nice part, have to remove the subframe bolts, 21mm. there are 4 bolts holding it in place and the top suspension mount bolts which allows it to drop down, you have to swing the subframe out the way or lower it down to get the downpipe past. not a nice job even on a ramp took me some time to do it and get the subframe off and on, its only a few bolts but it doesnt move very easy, easier to remove the 4 bolts holding the power steering rack in place as its connected to the subframe and the steering column joint inside the car.

if i didnt have a ramp id pay for it to be done save yourself the hassle and stress.

Bugger... I dont have a ramp. Two axel stands and a couple of jacks lol.

Looks like I need to find somewhere decent to get it done :think:

Well I did it ! With my two axel stands and two jacks :funk:

After 5 hours of sweat and lots of swearing I managed it.... missions !

Any chance of getting a guide on this as I plan to do this myself with similar tooling to yourself

The best guide I can give you mate is the one above. I followed that and its spot on. The only thing I would recommend is that you get yourself a small flexy rachet with a 17mm socket to remove the nuts off the turbo studs. This is mainly down to the lack of room that there is to get any leverage. Also you need to jack the car up pretty high to give yourself enough room to work and to allow you to remove the standard downpipe & cat.
