It's not like that. Removing the 12V socket and glove box light is purely down to cost reducing.

Having a normal size spare wheel when the car's floor has been designed for a small one and then creating this horrid thing as a cover is an entirely different thing and takes us decades back:

Looks like SEAT have gone the polar opposite with this. Mine doesnt even have a spare wheel

I know they were due to cost saving. My point is any sort of facelift usually results in some step backwards in spec somewhere whether for cost saving reasons or not.

Looks like they are becoming ever more generous in the spare wheel department

Funnily, this is the only car I have not had a spare wheel, and the 2 flats I have had were blow outs which meant having to get the car towed both times

Sorry, but I'll have to disagree. I don't know if you're talking about SEAT alone, but in general facelifted cars tend to be better equipped.

What about XDS? Is traction better then in pre-facelifted FR TDI?

I fairly dogged the ass out of my old FR and it was like a go-cart on twisty road, blankets and cack spring to mind but i'm sure all you MK2 FR owners know that! the XDS system is an enhancement to the ESP system so I'm anticipating that it'll still be very good. Haven't had it on any twisty roads yet but i'll keep you all updated.

I just mean they sometimes change spec for no real reason other than to save a few quid. Eg light and socket which is a step back. The spare is probably not the best example. Big compromise on boot space, but I guess they have had feedback on the lack of spare wheel. There have been a number of improvements elsewhere of course.

I'm pretty sure my MK1 FR TDi had a full size spare but it didn't stick up in the boot. The MK2 had a space saver. Anyway I'm sure there'll be a good reason for it. I'm going to get the dealer to check it out with SEAT Technical to see what the reason is and see what size of Space Saver will fit and just get one myself. Plenty in scrappys I'm sure and a few 18" unused ones on e bay for 20 quid so not really a massive issue really. My personal thoughts would be that if people had complained about the size of the spare then you should get a choice, either full size or space saver........i'd have gone for the space saver!

A spare wheel was available to you as a amendment to spec for the people who had Cupras off early build dates

Lord knows how many mag reviews and threads on forums I've seen where they have complained about the lack of a full size spare wheel. I know I'd rather have one than a poxy spacesaver. What puzzles me is why SEAT didn't just put in a foam or plastic section under the carpet like in so many other VAG cars to bring the boot floor up level. Maybe the slightly reduced boot capacity would look too bad on the spec sheets this way?
Anyhow Bilsten, rather than get a semi useless spacesaver why not get a flat carpet and build the boot floor up with foam? I'm sure there will be a VAG car with a foam section that will almost fit anyway, something out of an Altea, Golf 4WD or Audi A3 is going to be a nearly fit but may need a bit of trimming.

Why couldn't they have raised the floor level as they do with the haledex cars, the strand thng is my A3 has a full size spare ok it's not a alloy but at least it's the same size and I have a flat load space!

EDIT: Just checked the on-line spec-ulator thing and it looks the full size spare only comes with the 18" option wheels, if you have the 17" standard wheels it comes with a space saver wheel. Hopefully that will mean a level boot floor.
