Alright guys quick question, for some time now my 08 plate ibiza fr has a rattle coming from the dash..... i think. Happens when going over bumps, whether it's a clip, i'm not sure, but i also notice if i go over a bump when turning the wheel, there seems to be a creeky rattle frm my steering colum, but not 100%. Question is well ths be repaired under warranty, or will they rip my dash off and cause lots more rattles lol. Cheers

Your not going to like this but i really think that dash rattles are a feature of the car. My 08 Fr Tdi has rattled around the dash on and off from new also the steering can make a sort or whirling squeak somewhere under the wheel.

For me i put up with it as the dash is quite flimsy and plasticy in places and having the dealer rip it apart to find the squeak could lead to even more trouble :(

I've never been in a MK4 Ibiza that didn't rattle.

Mines was awful for it, both door cards, behind the dash, boot trim.

The most annoying is when the windows were down - they knocked and rattled big style.

You know... I must have the only mk4 without dash rattles!
I only get the squeek from the wheel on a hot day!

Cheers guys good to know it isnt just mine, i was just worried, because people state an advantage of the ibiza is its refinement and quality. Cheers

the normal rattles happen when cruising over a slightly bumpy road...mostly coming from the boot trim as i have managed to silence most of it. there is a slight rattle under the dials, but i guess thats just the plastics around the steering column rubbing

i would suggest getting a decent sub in there to drown it all out ;)

"refinement and quality" Ah yes i read the reviews on-line and found this factors often mentioned.

In truth i think at launch the Mk4 was prob about average in this field and then got left behind. Not that its really bad but i did find out whilst fitting my speed camera detector that the plastic used on the dash around the knee area were really thin and flimsy :( My 1990 Toyota MR2 has stronger plastics which can resist scratching better. As i said i put up with the odd squeak as the overal looks and driving package still offers me good value :)

if i go over a bump when turning the wheel, there seems to be a creeky rattle from my steering colum,

i also get this on my car it baffles me as it dont sound like it should be like that.

i also get a donk or kind of pop noise when the car just warms up and i go round a corner from in the dash somewhere it only does it once or twice then doesnt do it again that isnt related to the steering sound i get every now and again that you spoke of.

Mine has a rattle from the handbrake release button but it sounded like it was coming from the dash. Apparently you can just shove some sponge in there to stop it - havent got round to that yet though.

I had this too! Was such a relief when my mate realised it was just the handbrake, it definitely sounds like it's coming from the dash.

I just went mental on the button and pushed it in and out loads of times and wiggled it around and it seems to have stopped :cartman:

Mine has loads of rattle and squeeks. Ive sorted all the ones coming from the doors, i shoved bluetac behind the speaker brackets. I also found that the plastic bits around the dials were rattling but a good push stops that for a bit. Putting a decent sub in does hide alot of the rattles as well as making more when you dont have it on lol

Edit: Only another 5 to sort out and i think 1 is the handbreak
