De-restricted Air Box

Im thinking of getting this done soon...

Also an exhaust of some sort and induction kit...

Any comments would be great

induction kit is waste of time IMO. my 1.4 suffered major heat soak and lost what little power it had

My mate has done it to his civic coupe
Sounds well cool but dont know about any power gain

could possible smooth out the standard airbox. should be some easy to follow guide on here. No doubt for the cupra, but the process should be the same.

if there's a panel filter in there, replace it with a green cotton one or similar

I had a thread up on here somewhere which was all about smoothing out air box.... (will look for it in a bit)...

But i used to have a K&N induction kit on and although the noise is biblical, there is only a real difference in 1st gear I found and that was marginal, but the biggest difference is to your fuel gauge... and just watching as your money pours out of your pocket to fuel your car! And the worst thing was that I was probably slowly killing my engine because I had no heat shield or anything on the induction kit and so was just sucking in lovely hot air from the engine rather than the lush cold air your car craves!

What I've done instead then is to smooth out inside of air box, well made it less restrictive anyway, and hooked up a cold air feed, and put in better quality panel filters and that's given better performance (ha, ever so slightly because after all it is a shockingly shite under powered engine!) and if anything it's given me better fuel economy than before, and most importantly not getting the heat from the engine disrupting sensors and the filter etc etc.

nothing you can do to the 1.4 engine.. its utter rubbish.. hence why i have one .

it is indeed. that's why I got mine. was cheap insurane at 18. not enough power to get into trouble (although I somehow managed to get a total of 6 points speeding twice )

Plenty to get in trouble with!! Got 6 points in one go with it..! Nae good.

TBH mate, having one myself it isn't worth it. I put an induction kit on mine and made little to no difference, so put the old one back on, with a cold air feed to the air intake.

If I still had it, it would have been treated to a green cotton filter and maybe some holes drilled in it. If your going to do that just make sure you drill in the dirty side of the airbox

lost power?.... i thought it gained 1.6bhp from standard though mat?

yeah, but on the RR it didn't have the induction kit

would have probably lost about 20bhp with it on lol

it was the back box and stickers that added the 1.6

Yeah that's exactly how I have mine now at the min!!!

Ha, the 1.4 ibiza has never gotten me into any speeding trouble (I save that for when drive dad's jag or mum's cooper!)
Never even been close to crashing in it either! (unless you count getting stuck in the sand????... that's what I need, a 4x4 mk3 ibiza!!!)

i no every1 has said about heatsoak but what if u got piping and relocated with a cone filter behind the battery or does it still suffer from heat soak?
