I know a noise cant be heard via a post on here but just asking for advice. When switching my cupra off it rattles and sounds like a timing chain is over running, do they suffer from the chains becoming slack?? anyone experienced this? Can anyone recommend a garage in london/herts area just for further info or prices for work. cheers

The 1.8 20v T doesn't have a timing chain, its a belt.

I've never heard of one rattling.

Could be worn engine mounts causing the engine to move when switching it off maybe?

It does have a cam to cam chain tho and hydraulic tensioner on that chain.
If rattly, suspect oil pick up problem.
drop the sump and check pickup pipe is not clogged up causing low oil pressure. top of engine is usually the first thing to show up low pressure by rattling etc

Mine is doing something similar.

When cold makes more of a whir like a belt is turning something that is not happy about it but when its hot its a pronounced rattle on start up that stops as soon as you rev it. If you switch it off and start it again striaght after it doesnt really do it. If you wait 1 minute it does it really loud. I thought it was a oil pressure issue but the garage just said it was a Cam Chain Tensioner that is faulty causing it to rattle on start up. Quoted me £900 to repair it...
