Altea 2.0 TDi running unevenly

I have a 54 plate SEAT Altea 2.0 TDi which is giving me problems. The problem started a couple of weeks after I bought the car. I first noticed it sat at the traffic lights when the engine was running unevenly. A couple of miles down the road it had stopped and was running OK again. It has been on and off since then and the fuel economy is not as good as it should be. I was travelling along the motorway through a 50 mile per hour restriction and the car started to run unevenly again and every so often lurched forward and backward and again after a few miles it had gone. A friend of mine has plugged in a VW diagnostic computer but it fails to bring up any faults. Has anybody got any idea's? Thanks in advance, Gaz

could be a number of things.

dodgy fuel, have you changed your fuel filter at all?
Maf Sensor failing.
Injectors not working correctly due to fuel contamination.
do you fill you tank up fully on a fiver here and there? if you constantly run on a low fuel tank it is know to stuck up any dirt in the tank.

worth putting in some Millers Diesel Sport4 on you next fill up and getting your Fuel filter changed asap first of all. My Altea lives on Millers 24/7!

I always fill up and never run dry but am unsure obviously of what the previous owner had done. I just changed all the filters on the car when I bought it. My friend who works for VW has also changed the wiring loom for the injectors but no luck. He says that 2 injectors have bad readings also this does not manifest itself as an engine management problem on the computer. He also said the flywheel maybe at fault. New injectors and flywheels are so expensive I think I'll try that Millers stuff first. Is it meant to clean injectors?

Could be the throttle body needs cleaning also, although I'm having the same issue, I've no idea really.

I've got my throttle body cleaned, new oil + oil filter, new air filter, and new fuel filter.. and its still the same.

Next will be the dialectric grease, maf replacement.. or cleaning... after that I think theres the coolant sensor and so on and so fourth....not sure if there is anything else.

Its annoying more than anything, but I want to get it sorted before it gets any worse.

There's no throttle body to clean on a TDI, mate.

Yes it could be the flywheel. Do you get any noise from it when lifting off to change gear, or any vibration when letting the clutch out?

I've been had! I was told by my dealer they had "cleaned the throttle body" I'm furious..

I second Toxic's view of Millers sport additive, I've only been running on it for the past
two months, it runs so much 'perkier' and smoother, though won't be buying it from Halfords
anymore as now know it can be bought elsewhere via this forum !!!

Mine was doing something similar a few months back and I had the fuel filter changed, which made it a bit better, but the biggest change came from replacing the MAF. It is so much better now and fuel economy has improved as well.

I got mine for just over £50. It was a remanufactured unit from Bosch. It was easy to fit, no problems, in fact as it was an exchange unit, I took off the old one outside the shop in about five minutes. As long as you can undo the clips on the inlet pipe okay, the rest is very easy.

UPDATE:

Just to let you all know that my problem is solved. Apparently the ECU needed a software upgrade! That cost £73 from SEAT dealer. I was very sceptical but so far so good Keeping my fingers crossed now

Service recall for this one?

Mine was the same and eventually threw the coil and mil light on. Dealer inspection showed MAP sensor wiring is wrong on a lot of the 2.0 TDI. There is a service fix takes about 2.5hours. The resistance of the engine loom is too high and effects the low end of the MAP sensor resulting in low rev stumble and even stalling. I noticed it when lifting into second on decelerstion the thing would occasionally try to stall if you were not quick getting the clutch down. This is a fix on customer complaint so if its in warranty then try the dealer.

Just had the MAF, Air filter, fuel filter, oil filter, oil (long life), Gear oil replaced on my car! and the judder is still there..
