I've decided to go for a green open cone filter for my lcr, with an 80mm inlet and 200mm long. So to connect this to the intake I need to order a samco straight connector as well, should I go for 85mm diameter and use jubilee clips to tighten it or do I need 80mm diameter and stretch it a little to go over the neck of the filter and the intake? Is this everything I need, just the cone filter and the straight connector? and is the neck size correct?

Here is the link for the filter:

and the connector:

cheers

I'm going to be buying the same unit soon.
I would buy the 80mm one. Heat it in boiling water to allow this to push fit over filter and MAF.
Also a little vasaline etc could be used

You don't need the straight connector - the neck size of that green cotton cone filter is the internal diameter of the rubber sleeve; so this will fit straight onto the MAF; just jubilee clip it on. I had the same filter on mine for a while - you may wish to make up a bracket to support the end of it using one of the oem airbox mounting holes. (there is a bolt coming out of the end of the filter you can use) HTH :)

Thanks, saves me a tenner I suppose :D How did you find the filter in terms of noise and performance?

Sound advice otherwise you will be spending another £80 on a MAF, also try your best to isolate it from vibration (rubber mounts etc) vibration kills MAF's too

not real difference in performance, from memory a max. of 215g/s when logging.

My experimental cone is sitting in the lower half of the airbox with the 100mm feed still fitted.

Sounds as mean as the one Danny has :D

i didnt think it mattered about sucking hot air in cause goes through turbo an thats bloody hot, thought the intercoolers are there to cool the air down after its been in turbo.
Yup but the cooler air you can get in there the denser it is and the better efficentcy you can get in the fuel burn

efr 6758 here i come
yeah i understand that but before it goes into the inlet manifold where dense air matters it goes through a very hot turbo which makes it less dense, thought people put fmic to make air cooler an more dense, i put one hand on each side of my fmic an can fell difference before an after cool ait has passed through cooler.

Say the FMIC reduces the temperature by 50%.
Put in 30 degree intake gases and get out 15 degree
Put in 20 degree intake gases and get out 10 degree

Here's a pic of the bracket I made up for my green cotton filter. Fairly easy just excuse the excess thread in mine couldn't be bothered to cut it.......

Is there a thread link?

Think I've still got some logs between my BMC & Open Cone if you want to see Rudd? BMC did indeed come up rather poo compared.
