Yes all PD170s have the DPFs (Diesel Particulate Filter) in them. There is a lof of information on the forum about the DPFs.
The car is a diesel so of course its going to sound like a diesel on start up and low speeds. But its really quite when you are on the move.

I would agree on start up that you know its defo a diesel but once up and running its not very noticable, just put the stereo up a notch

all diesels are noisy on start up...why not take one out on a test drive ? you wont even know your in a diesel once its warmed up! my old mans got the 170 tdi in his golf, it sounds less diesely then my 130tdi and its quieter i think!

Coming from an Altea FR TDi I can agree that they are noisy for a diesel, once warmed up they are better, its the same engine as the Golf/Passat/A4 etc. there all the same

The facelifted FR TDi will be a common rail diesel. That will also have a DPF, but apparently better designed than the PD version. On the motorway you can hardly hear a thing.

Yup the new FR is Common Rail the same as in my TT.

A comment from a diesel hater who I gave a lift to, "It sounds nothing like a diesel".

For what it worth I've not known of any DPF issues on the TT. Maybe one faulty sensor someone reported but that's about it.

Regardless of the noise the FR TDI makes you have to consider this.

Astra SRI 2.0 turbo petrol = 170ps and 250 Torque

Leon FR 2.0 TDI = 170ps and 350 Torque

makes the vauxhall look stoopid IMO.

my standard Tdi FR is giving 191.7 bhp atm. measured at the xtreme RR day some of us had last month. some Tdi FR's are giving out even more power. some very close to 200bhp like nick's :)

Going to get a DPF delete soonish and bypass any DPF issues from tuning with the DPF in place.
stage 2 tuning is getting 225-245bhp atm.
