Get a quote with bell. They insure mods and it cost me hardly anymore. They do a 10 month policy that will give you a years no claims aswell. Also to make it cheaper add named drivers. Im the main driver on mine but it halved by adding my mum and grandad as named drivers.

No one plans to but you never know what is around the corner, all you have to do is run into a back of someone then you have things like wipe lash claims and it will cost you 1000's if not more.

Sorry but if you can't aford the insurance then don't do the mods.

well said GTV. I had no intetnion of doing anything first without seriously considering the insurance issue, especially if I'm only going halves with Dad atm.

I didn't plan on crashing when i had a modded v6 vectra, it only had tints, alloys, exhaust and grill.

I took a corner far to fast in the wet and lost the back end and ended up sideways in a ditch! They took the car then returned it after they inspected it and I didn't get a single penny for the writeoff and now direct line hate me lol.

I was just glad I didn't hit anyone else because if I did I would have been paying their bill out of my own pocket.

Its up to you but if you do crash they will tell you where to go!

i had a standard Astra, but the previous owner put some different (yet standard) vauxhall alloys on it, i thought they were standard on it, then someone smashed into me, and wrote off my car, my insurance wouldn't pay out as i had a mod (which i didn't) i had to go and get 4 steelie's just so i can get my pay out (oh well had a spanking new fiat bravo 1.9tdi 150bhp for 50days) but it was such a headache!

that's why i am getting my car to standard, less problems lol

so which mods are insurance companies bothered about,
I didnt think alloys were a major thing,
I thought they mainly cared about the engine and body kits etc

anything that adds value to the car, a decal could count as a mod you know!
better tell them to be safe then sorry!
