a lot of head units do not work with i phone i have found. you really need to put some research in to find one that does. just because its listed as ipod ready does not mean its i phone ready

I use this cradle

http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/tuneflexaux

I wouldnt be able to say if it is compatible with an iphone but it has the craslde adapter for my ipod touch and all the others.
Quite pleased with it because it sits just at the right height to skip tracks and stuff with my hand resting on the gearstick.
The only bit I dont like is the fact I have to leave the ashtray lid open all the time, im planning to make a little cover with a cig lighter hole in it soon though

Yup, you really gotta make sure it's iPhone 3G compatible, not just iPhone (If you've got the 3G anyways.) as they changed the pins slightly I think. I think one of the reasons most don't work is because it uses the 5V Data cable on the USB as well, not just the 12V line to charge it.

I use an Alpine CDE-104BTi and it works fully with my iPhone 3G, both the bluetooth Parrot part and the playing.

Well I wasn't looking to change the head unit, which works fine with my Ipod calassic via direct usb link. I naively thought that it would work with iphone. The iphone connects and charges via cable link, but no sound, thats with the ipod classic link up anyway, might try my iphone cable tomorrow.
