Newbie - Dynamic Navigation Advice

Hi,

Brand new to the forum, Picked up my toledo V5 170 BHP yesterday. What a drive i must say. Been on the mazda forum for years but new car, time to change.

I have the Dynamic Navigation system built in but is seems very dated and the cd is from 2001. I have been searching the forum but kind need some pointers to get me going. Here goes.

1. How do i know what model my dynamic navigation system is?

2. Can i download any firmware or software updates and where?

3. what does mfd and tmc mean?

4. where can i buy the TV tuner module

5. where can i get a guide to puttin an AUX cable in for say an ipod?

6. Are there any guides out there for stuff like this like picture guides and explanations on how to do modifications and stuff?

I am sorry for all the questions but gotta start somewhere

Cheers

I've had recent fun and games with mine aswell, so lets see if I can give you some answers;

1. Easiest way to find the model is to pop it out and look at the label. You're going to be needing to remove it to do most other things, so a set of keys is worth the few pounds. I believe its a Blaupunkt unit, if you go and look at there sat nav units you should be able to recognise it. Its used in a few cars.

2. I've not seen any updates to it, but the maps are held on CD-ROM, which can be updated very easily. By the sounds of it, it does just need a map update to become usable (its absolutely useless by default!). One other forum poster found a map on Ebay, and they are available from Seat, but I'm still looking for a cheap option. The ones from Seat are more expensive than a new sat nav unit!

3. MFD = multifunction display (radio, TV, satnav, all in one). TMC = traffic management ??? (I think?)

4. The TV tuner module is available from Seat, I've not seen it anywhere else.

5. Have a look on the board here for a mod that I did, unfortunately I had to chop into the CD changer to get it working, so I can have CD or MP3, not both. You can buy CD changer replicators to confuse the head unit into thinking the player is there, but they're not cheap. And you still lose the CD changer because you have to unplug it.

6. There are a few dotted about, I put some details of what I did in an earlier post and there's a few in the 'how-to' forum that I found useful.

Thanks

Thanks for posting a reply. I will start looking into it though i doubt my funds will be able to stretch so far as to buy a tv tuner module from seat. The Navi CDs at that price will have to another solution as well.

How about hooking up a 12 V Dvd player does that still require some special module or can i just use a dvd connector cable? I will order some removeal keys.

The problem with the unit is that any device plugged on to it requires a two way communication, its not simply a case of feeding in video and audio. As soon as you unplug a device, it gets greyed out from the main menu and you can't select it. As an example, you should find 'TV' is greyed out at the moment.

Without being able to select it on the menu, you won't get anything on the screen or through the speakers.

Hi all
IIRC the early sat navs had the logo 'Seat navigation system' on the front near the cd slot these are the NON DX units and will only work with NON DX discs, later units are marked 'Dynamic navigation system' and use the dx discs,dx added more upto date stuff like limited postcode searches and some other stuff,it gets confusing when (like me) you have a non dx unit but instructions for dx one,i had 2001 discs but managed to get some 2007 ones on fleabay for £15 (ahem!!)
The main prob with any built in unit is its design is locked back when it was first fitted,-back in 2001 it must have been the dogs bollocks but times move on very quickley in electronics,so even the cheapest standalone/tomtom etc will leave our units for dead,- i know i use both, but you cant beat the look of a built in unit,as long as your not in a rush for her to be 'calculating route'
NB i think 2007 was the last year that tele atlas are supporting the non dx system with updated discs so get em while you can,-check out tele atlas on e bay or there own web site
If you find out anything about the TV module let us know as i was asking a while back but didnt get too far

Regards

Dave:)

By the way, if you are getting a new disc, make sure its the genuine article. I got caught out when I went to upgrade my disc and ended up with a copied one which wouldnt work. Found a genuine one then that worked perfectly.
