Hi guys

Need to wire my ipod to some where, i have no cd change but taking the glove box apart to drill a hole looks complicated are there any guides?

Also i have seen someone put one in a ash tray which looks alot easier as you could just drop a wire in there. Has any one done this and can help?

Cheers

Mate, stick it in the glove box! Its pretty easy, if I remember rightly, you have to take the end cap thing off the end of the dash ( where the door meets it), then simply a few screws and the whole thing pulls out.
Theres also a nice space behind it to tuck any spare cable.
Hope this helps....good luck. :)

Yup, Glove box comes out nice and simply.

Screws along the end cap by the door, a few under the sill of the door and one in the bottom right just to old it in square.

There is loads of room out the back of it which is nice.

However remember that when you remove the glove box if you disconnect the air bag switch it will illuminate the dash light. This is easy to turn off if you have VAG COM, but will need to go to garage if you do not!

I don't have an Ipod but I have my unit running a memory stick. I just ran a usb extension cable from the back down into the ashtray. If you have skinny enough fingers like I do & a slim enough wire/plug etc you can do it without taking any panels off at all. :D

Did you take the ash tray out to do this and was there enough space to drop the wire down to the ash tray or is it fiddly???

Cheers

There's plenty of space behind for the wire but it is very fiddly. I didn't actually remove the ashtray or anything else at all. It is very fiddly though so if you know how to remove bits it may prove a lot easier. I just dropped the wire down the back with the headunit out & managed to pull it through by reaching to the back by the drivers footwell.

thats what i did, in the little pocket where the changer would go i drilled in the top so things wont fall out then placed my box there etc.

if you sell the car you can leave it or buy a new bit of trim and that bit is cheap as chips.

How do you cope with the clips on the connector? To unclip mine I have to push either side and it comes out, or do you leave enough slack on the cable to feed it through?

I've currently got mine in the glove box and can confirm that there's enough space to get the cables through. My HU has an adapter mid-cable which I've velcro'd to the top of the glove box and pushed the cable through into the space next to it.

All done took me 45 mins.... tops to do the lot. Head unit is and working and there is a hole to the right at the back behind the head unit, if you look you can see through to the foot well... this is where i dropped the cable and it fell to the floor... lucky i guess...

Anyways it looks great, thanks all for your help!!!

It is a bit fiddly but I only ever take it out to sync it. There's only about an inch and a half of cable sticking out, any more than that and I found the cable 'crumpled' up and became disconnected on one side.

The problem with FM transmitters is that they get phased out by permanent signals. This is ok if you can find a signal that's clear but it can change if you go up/down the country.
