Central locking remote system wont work. it works with the key in the lock manually on all the doors, boot and petrol cap but not with the remote.

Have replaced the batteries and tried to resync and the remote flashed 5 times to confirm it had sync'd as described in the owners manual but still nothing when i press the button?!?!

Its never worked since I've owned the car and I've had the key door lock mechanism break on me twice so would be useful to get the remote central locking working as I know this is a common problem.

If its the fuse or relay, where are these and which number?

I've trawled the internet and this forum for an answer but no joy :(

Also, the central locking makes like a farting/purring sound, is this normal?

1998 Seat Ibiza SXE 5 door

thanks

mine did that, do the hazards flash when you press the button? mine didn't work at all before, the noise is from the control relay in the boot, found this on mine and had a air leak so it wouldn't work,

On mine the pipe that was split was for the petrol cap so, instead on buying a new one, i took the pipe off and just stuck a screw in the end so all mine works apart from the fuel cap which is always unlocked but doesn't bother me.

You might want to get the unit out and check all pipes coming off it to see if any are broken.

If it works with the key then the pump and the pipes are probably OK. When you press the remote, does the pump operate (that will be the farting / purring sound from the boot area)?

absolutely nothing! no flashing or anything.

like I said, the central locking mechanism itself works because it locks/unlocks all the doors manually with the key or by taking the lock out and activating it with a screwdriver

I have had exactly the same problems as you since I bought my car, same noise and same problem with the remote. Let me know if you fix the problem, thanks!

it works fine manually from the passenger side... well it did till part of the lock in the drivers door broke so i swapped the handles over. The central locking mechanism itself works fine on all doors and locks, its just getting it to work remotely.

The reason this is something id like to sort now is that the bit of the lock that activates the central locking manually has snapped... on both doors. so i have to lock and unlock the car manually by climbing in and out through the boot.
