I'm not sure of the gains but will al the mods my car reached 288bhp, i'm 12 of that is due to the Evoms. Yes it replaces the airbox. You have to modify the engine cover for it to fit or buy one from evoms. I don't have the cover on my engine.
and would i have to get the car mapped to get the most from a proper air intake, or will it just make that difference straight off?
An uprated intake would be best advised after an uprated fuel pump. The fuel pump is the weaker link of the two as the pump can often not cope with the standard airflow after a remap. Adding more air will just help lean it out further.
This can be checked/logged on VAGCOM channel 230 to see the difference between specified fuel rail pressure and actual fuel rail pressure. A remapped car will obviously need more air to take advantage of higher boost and more fuel, so running an intake upgrade on a mapped car with a stock fuel pump is probably not the best move. Lots of people have seen fuel cuts when running a remap on a stock car with an uprated intake and stock fuel pump.
The car will protect itself by pulling back boost to compensate, therefore slowing the car down to ensure the engine has no problems due to leaning out.

I had a 2.0TFSI FR, trade for a Cupra. Insurance comapny didnt even increase my quote, assume due to same engine and the paramters of performance FR v Cupra didnt warrnat an increase!
Secondly tbh, i'd just go for a decent remap now, have fun with that and then put aside your savig for any exhaust = other mods.
As already stataed, if you want a stage 2 perfomace circa 280+bhp you need to uprate all the components that are recommended not just the exhaust, especiailly if you want longevity from your motor.
Do remap and them wait for warrnaty to expire then lob the rest on!
id love to get a cupra, but ive only found a few companies who will insure me on the fr for less than a grand, and the ones who will wont cover me for the cupra. that greenlight one that yous all use to insure your modified cars wont even quote me on the standard one. im 24 like, im not that young. yeah itd prob be easier in the long one to wait two or three years an just get a cupra, and for the time bein just stick with the fr + a remap. just dont wana get shafted on the waranty with the remap.
also, horace what kind of fuel pump, how much are we talkin, and will the dealer notice this at a service?
hey, so whats the crack with these diverter valves then, apparently ill be needin on of them if i want to have a reliable remap. jbs have offered me a forge one, price seems pretty reasonable too. anyone else got one of these or even another make, or want to offer some advice? how will this work with warranty too?
