my timing chain slipped again today which was extremly dissapointing as it is a brand new chain :( the car is missfiring and only revs up to 3k, however sometimes the problem will pass over and the car works fine for a short spell. i took it down to a garage today and they said to check the timing on it and also check the airmass flow sensor, they reccomended to change to camshaft sensor but that is also brand new so i dont think that needs looking at. does anyone have any solutions to this?

PLEASE HELP ME ON THIS ONE, THANKS :)

Hi Rocky. I assume you have a 1.2 12v engine. I know that VW modified the timing chain tensioners on the 1.2. Had experience of a customers cars chain jumping and dinking the valves. He had to renew the chain and tensioners and found the new tensioner bits and pieces were modified. Valves were renewed as garage did an overnight leak test on them and they failed so had to be renewed as well. Regards.

yeah it is a 1.2, my car was working fine for a couple of days so i am hopeful it hasnt caused anymore damage as it is quite a big job to do on the drive way lol, the mechanics at "wolkswerk" did say the tensioners could have been loose. thanks for your reply!

If your chain has jumped it will cause a permanent problem until the chain is timed up again and any damage to valves fixed.

If the problem comes and goes it probably isn't a jumped chain, I can't see the chain jumping teeth on a sprocket and then jumping back again :rolleyes:

Sounds like a coil pack failure or a MAF problem to me.

If it's a coil pack that has failed go to a seat dealer as they cover the coil packs for 5 years . They know that they always go and will replace them for free until the car is 5 years old.

the cylinder it is missfiring on has just had a brand new coilpack and spark plug put on, whats a MAF problem?

tell us more:think::)

Yes, must be really good valves and engine if they can last overnight, maybe it was just a keen nightshift mechanic pressurising it and checking it every 10 minutes - just in case it decided to start failing at a certain time?!? (nice work if you can get it!)

Maybe you have a brand new plug/coil pack that didn't last very long?

They can be switched to another cylinder to see if the fault swapped over too.

A MAF is a "Mass Air Flow" sensor, normally stuffed up the air intake pipe just after the air filter, but a dodgy MAF doesn't normally cause a misfire it causes the engine to be gutless or go into limp home mode.

If you deffo have a misfire then look at coil packs

you'll most probly have to pay the full wack of 80pound for one then, thats what i think they go for, your best bet would be a VWdealer, but even still, i think they have to be ordered lol
