Air vents blowing only Hot Air

HI All,
I am new to this forum and would appreciate feed back on a problem I am desperate to solve.
I have a Seat Cordoba (2003 petrol) and am posting this thread to get your thoughts on a fault my car has developed recently on its climate control system.

The air vents in my seat Cordoba 1.4s (2003) blows out normal cool air if the temperature knob is set to minimum position as you would expect. But if you turn the knob to get some warm air for a short while it gets super HOT..!!!
The knob loses control and vents will only blow Hot Air whatever be the knob position. If I pull over to the hard shoulder, turn the engine off for 5 seconds, turn the knob to minimum and restart the engine, then things gets back to normal.
But as you can imagine it is not a safe option which you can do while you are on a busy motorway.

Does anyone has some clues with regard to whats wrong with my climate control system?

I'm not sure how the new climate systems work, but that does seem extreme.

If its going from cool to very hot immediately then I'd assume there is a problem with the climate temperature controller module given the 'ignition reboot' you have to perform to get it to go back to normal. Is it under warranty?

Might be worth checking the fuse box initally to make sure all is well (Fuses are OK, and there is no damp in the electrics etc.). Then see if you can find someone locally with VAGCOM.

Nops, it is no longer under any warranty. I got a number of things replaced while being in warranty, the last thing being just 2 weeks b4 it expired, which saved me approx. 200£ on a faulty power steering pump.
As you have suggested will check the fuses and give it a clean. VAGCOM, not sure, will check with a local mechanic whom I have been told is a VW specialist.

could also be a faulty exterior or interior temp sensor. this happens on my '01 because the exterior temp sensor is dodgy.
