If it's rhythmic and goes away when you press the clutch down, I'd 99% say it's the flywheel. I'm no mechanic but pretty sure that's what it is. If it sounds like a train on tracks, like tickedy tick, tickedy tick then mine does it too and it's the flywheel on mine that's on it's way out.

I've got the same on my Fabia VRS.

Start the car up and no noises at idle or when clutch depressed.

However if I take it for a drive and give it a little bit of stick, then come to a standstill, take it out of gear and let it idle, I can hear like a "click-a click click" every 3-4 seconds rythmically. That's only with the fans off and the music off though.

I havn't had any clutch slip at all though. Car is on 46k and has about 5k on a P Torque map.

That near enough the same for mine and its only done 11000miles with no map and only 3000miles on the current engine

Hi. That sounds similar to the noise my car (2007 TDI FR) was making a few months ago. It made an irregular clunking/ticking/rattling noise that gradually became more noticeable over a week or so. I could hear it at tickover. Sometimes depressing the clutch stopped it, other times depressing the clutch actually started it.

It then got to the point when I could hear it while the car was moving. By this point I'd decided to get the car checked out. From what I remember, the mechanic said that the flywheel had thrown all it's grease/lubricant (I think). Pretty worrying given that the car was under 20k and less than 2 yrs at the time. I didn't realise it was a common problem. Bit worrying.

Fixed now but just hoping it doesn't return!

make sure you tell them to take a look at the flywheel

I hope they are not dismantleing the gearbox !!! the Dual Mass Fly wheel is between the Gearbox and engine, if the people fixing the car are not Seat / VW People make sure you tell them to take a look at the flywheel, I had EXACTLY this problem with my car. and its quite common, bit expensive as new dual mass flywheels are 350 quid and they have to split the gearbox - engine although spliting the two is not the hardest job i've done. its a lot better than having a gearbox problem
