Wich type of paint should I use to paint the rusting bit under the wheels on the brake hubs.
Bought some cheap hammerite smooth finish in silver, reckon that should be ok just to make it look tidier.
Also do you reckon I could use it in red for the callipers?
The rusting seems to happen on all the mk2's so I believe.

I purchased a tin of the exact same stuff about an hour ago, again to paint the rusty wheel centres. I was also thinking about buying a tin of red too for the callipers but they didnt have any so that made my decision.

Not planning on doing mine (wheel centres at least) until next week so let me know how you get on if you do them sooner.... good colour match etc

Don’t you judge me!!! :p Its detachable... not on all the time.

The only reason I got the tow bar really was because I have a tow bar mounted bike rack, in my opinion these are the best way to go when carrying 1/2/3 expensive bikes. The only other way I would consider is a roof rack.

I would have thought you could get Hammerite in a 'red' colour. Just read this thread that may be of interest for the callipers... http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=213505&highlight=paint+callipers

I used something called "Very High Temperature Paint" in black, undercoated with primer first then 2 coats of the black..

available from Halfords..

Im probably stating the obvious, but buy something quick drying!
I used Hammerite and had to wait a whole afternoon on it drying properly. I still ended up with some paint flung off on to the back of my alloys :(

Colour is always a dilema!

I can't decide if to do the hubs in Black to match the alloys or in red to match body / calipers!!

You can use Hammerite or the product I recommend on both hubs and calipers, just a preference really

Hammerite is touch dry in 2 hours so I will use that for the discs.
65coupe' If I have such limited intelligence then I assure you I would not be an explosives superviser. Its just that I've never seen the red anywhere round here.

Muffin...That car looks cool but the silver would look better on mine rather than the black.
Nice to see some of us take a real pride in our motots even though I don't go quite that far.

I have used Hammerite smooth paint, brushed on a few coats, dried pretty quick, just leave a few hours and should be fine. Used on disc hubs and and calipers with good results, wont beat proper refurb and spray though.

Decided to take rear discs completely off to paint.Easy to do.
Now for the front ones when its fine. Not looking like its gonna be today though.
Rear discs removal for anyone that wants to know requires a 13mm and 15mm spanner to remove the calipers then a star shape allen type key (forgot what its called)to remove the actuall disc with a few sharp taps to dislodge it.Carefull not to dint the disc like I did though as it is very soft material.Use a rubber mallet if you can.

did that on purpose once with 4 colours on the inside of a vw beetle brake drum - looked wicked once it had dried :):)

all my calipers are new so been loving the gold anodised look but must get in there and paint em up - smoothrite brush on always seemed ok to me
