Well,Just had 80,000 full service done at Euro Performance + MOT and they seemed to think she was running really well.
Said she was a good strong car!He also said the siren noise was common on VAG cars but to seek help immediately if performance is affected, otherwise not to worry.
Flew through MOT which I was mega chuffed about.
Fingers crossed on the old turbo front for now!
GlynnD, how loud was your siren noise?(silly question I know)

It was loud enough to be heard over the engine!
I can only go by my experience.
I pulled out of a junction, got up to 20 mph and then its as if I hit a brick wall.
No performance and I thought the police had pulled me!. I managed to limp home which was a mile away. By this time more than half the engine oil had gone through the turbo, The shaft had snapped after allowing the comp wheel to contact the inside of the comp housing virtually wearing away the whole of the wheel!
Not a good idea, this can completely destroy the engine/ bend a rod/ damage the bottom end. So thats my experience of the siren noise, never heard it till that day and it ended in a bill for £1500.

i think i've noticed mine since the weather has changed to slightly warmer...

in my head the following makes sense:

colder weather = louder engine hence why before we may not of noticed it much? (as glynnd states it was louder than engine before it went boom)

weather is warming up = quieter engine, hence why i can hear the noise now?

Holty says he has been told its common and nothing to worry about.
Dont know about common, never heard mine make that noise in 70k apart from the day it died.Nothing to worry about? Persoanly I would want to know what the hell is making the noise, if its down to wear in a part somewhere then its surely from the turbo. That cant be good?

I know what you're saying Glynn.I am still very wary of any different noises appearing.
Its just such a slight noise that can only be heard very very faintly. Not under any decent amount of acceleration though
