Strut Brace & Fitting LCR

Mine wasn't a simple fit, but I took it to a good garage (VAG specialist - Storm Developments) to fit while my car was there for a remap. Before the strut towers could be marked for drilling, the brace had to have a metal loop on the off-side removed as this would have damaged the water-line over time and on the near-side the bracket had to be shaped to allow the bonnet lifter to operate. The drilling I felt I'd prefer not to do myself, but I know a few people have done themselves. The nuts/bolts/washers should be high strength steel (such as wurth) due to the forces involved.

Hi mate,

I fitted my S3 brace on the weekend, but i did not notice any water pipes being fouled? Any chance you could give me an idea where to look so i can check to make sure i've not got a problem.

I was thinking about the S3 one on mine, but because of the bonnet strut mount i needed adapting, so I went for the APR carbon fibre strut brace, fitted like a treat and looks great. It a U shape at the end not circular around the supension top.

Perhaps they have changed the design, but on my brace on the o/s (drivers side) there is a little loop of metal that I suppose must connect to something on the S3. On the LCR it is in line with the water pipe and when we tried fitting it, it was rubbing against the tubing. In the end they removed this loop which allowed it to fit no problems.

have seen those, would like to see a pic.
Was it an easy fit? I know some need cutting by the bonnet lifter

Here are some pics of the one from Hottuning.eu, IMO its looks better than the S3 one, however there is not much clearance over the engine cover and i need to fasten some pipes on the left so they are not rubbing off the stress bar.
i also had to file the part that goes around the strut tower to get it to fit, this was easy though, a small flat file and some wet and dry sand paper and you can't tell the difference.

The only reason i went with this initially is because Audi quoted me €130 ext vat for an S3 bar with is daylight robbery.

These things get damn hot being aluminium.

That is expensive! Looks like you'll have the remove the engine cover won't you? Is aluminium strong enough - maybe the sress it is under causes it to heat up too much?

No the heat is a directly from the engine bay, anything under there is gonna get hot, also what you cannot really see in the pic is that there is about a 1cm gap between the engine cover and the bar, which is enough IMO, also the engine cover is not a static peice of equipment there is a certain amount of give in it.

The bar is made form high grade treated aluminum and is rock solid at about 1inch thick, i am not worried about this at all.

think ill leave it i didnt realise it was quite a bit of hassle shame cus ive had them on previous cars and they look good and help cornering. my other cars had the bolts already there so i didnt have to drill or chop anything.

A good garage will be able to do it okay. The S3 brace is very good and definately improved the handling - tightening up the rather loose front-end. It should have been on the car in the first place in my opinion.

Look no further than the Audi S3 strut-brace (as pictured above).
Under £60 to buy, under an hour to fit.

sorry to bring this up again i got my s3 brace today, in the pic above i cant see if its grinded or cut part off the s3 brace out

my new ones catching on the bonnet lifter should i grind it off or cut out a bit, belows the bit im on about

You may need to notch a bit out, i did, its trial and error.
As i mentioned before the loop has vacuum pipes ran through it on an S3, but no need to get rid of it unless you want to.

I had already notched and the garage did it for free while fiiting my ARBs(25mm & 28mm)
Felt a lot better but probably mostly ARBs so cant comment on just the brace
