:DHey folks! Hope your having a good weekend, I managed to grab a flat parking space today outside the house lol, so took this opportunity to the maximum!

I decided to take up Halfords offer of 2 axel stands, a jack, a backbench on wheels and some wheel chocks for £69.99!
Put them to great work following it up with the following;

Genuine oil filter & 5L Quantum Gold 5w40 oil
Genuine pollen filter
Genuine fuel filter

Did the pollen filter, great little quick job, and the old one was almost black with dirt!!! and leaves and all that rubbish.

It started off rubbish, I jacked up the rear, found the fuel filter but the bracket screw has completely rounded off, absolutely terrible design to have a simple screw there, its bound to rust! So anyway I couldn't get it off! So gave up before I broke something! So frustrating as It is so easy to change if I could get that bracket off!

So I went on to the front, got the sump nut off, covered my self and the road in oil in the process but oh well ( no matter how you try and get the oil can to catch the oil, some always misses!), then getting the oil filter off was a good old fashioned hammer a screwdriver through it, cover myself in oil again, and screw it off.

It's a bit of a pain getting the oil filter off isn't it?! I disconnected the (SAI?) connector under the car and got it through in the end.

Anyway, to my knowledge, when I bought the car at 51k, it had FSSH until 30k... Then nothing... So I went with the assumption it hadn't had ANYTHING done inbetween (even though prev owner may well have just done it themself)

I had the oil changed at 51k when I bought it, but local garage didn't use genuine parts and not sure what oil but wasn't fully synth, so i've treated that like a 'flush' as it's just hit 52k and i've done this one.

Very satisfying seeing the Quantum oil go in... So clear! Almost looks good enough to cook your chips in :D I know it won't stay clear long, but at least it's peace of mind now that I know exactly what oil and filter has been used and that it's actually been changed! (I don't trust garages sometimes!)

Anyway, I will attempt to tackle the fuel filter screw next weekend, as i've had enough for today!

PS> The dealer said there is a new oil Quantum PLATINUM now apparantly... Not sure if anyone fancies using that? Might be for the new engines though I never asked the viscosoty...

Just take note of the arrow on the old filter before removing it. It indicates the flow of fuel. (School boy error), but im sure its easy done.

Nothing better than doing it yourself.

Been doing my own services for the last four years.

Costs me about £60 a time with the cupra (genuine filters, Fully synth oil) but worth it in my opinion.

You know exactly what oil has been put in and you know that proper filters have been used not cheap **** generic parts.

Your spot on seany, first thing I do when I change my cars, engine flush, fresh oil & filter. Peace of mind!
(even though I drop my oil religiously every 6k)
