I see, the different Cupra types do cause confusion it has to be said.

There are a great bunch of lads round the corner from my work (Martin's Tyres - Woking) and they do a whole range of tyres. Not being a tight wad but my Golf has Nexen's on, ok not a household name but they are a good price so they might be able to do similar with the 225/45/R17's - I'll have to give them a call.

Try here once you have a price. They are very competetive and you might find you can afford a brand name tyre for the same price or just a little more. Hope this helps...

Sean, you can get a 180bhp Cupra or FR right up until 2006 (1999 - 2006). The Cupra R was a different model that ran from 2002 - 2006 with either a 210 or 225bhp engine.

Heres a quick guide to show you which is which...

This was the original Cupra, released when the SEAT Leon 1st came out in 1999. It was fitted with a 180bhp petrol engine, 16" wheels and a 6-speed gearbox.

In 2002, SEAT decided to give this model a facelift with different bumpers, side skirts and 17" wheels. This time it was called the Cupra T, still with a 180bhp engine.

In 2004, SEAT decided to rebrand this model as the FR. This came with silver mirrors, a different style alloy wheel and an updated interior, still with 180bhp.

While this was going on, SEAT also decided to release a new Top Of The Range model, The Cupra R. This would now make the Cupra T/FR the 2nd most powerful model in the range. The Cupra R was designed to take on bigger game such as the Civic Type R, Focus RS etc. It came with different bumpers, 18" wheels, different interior, Brembo Brakes, a 210bhp engine (2002 - 2003) and then a 225bhp engine (2003-2006). Basically it's completely different to the Cupra/FR and was never designed to replace it but to run along side it.

....finally bought a Cupra and we collect it on Saturday - can't wait....!

I test drove two in the end - the first one fell through as i noticed a strange noise in third gear so the dealer won't release it (despite having the box apart FOC). The car we have got is a Platinum Grey one on an 03 plate - and my they go well, my Mk3 GTI 8V feels like a bus compared to the Cupra and the Golf's no slouch...!
