The Mk 2 only come as a Cupra not a Cupra R like the MK1..

Not sure on the difference i know the Cupra has a K04 Turbo which may be different for starters..

A lot of companies are offering a K03(standard tfsi) to K04(cupra/s3/ed30) conversion:
For example http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=10739&xSec=360

This is the best way of going about it and you end up with a lot more BHP than a standard cupra. if you type in K03 to K04 conversion or just K04 conversion you should get some success on finding a company near you and the finer details of what you need.

hope this helps

location , location
cupra engines internals are a lot different to the K03 cars , a lot stronger internally.

So i dont think its just a case of bolting on a new turbo.

To make the power, you would need cams, turbo, manifold, injectors, ecu map etc, but you will still have different (weaker) engine components on your BWA (K03s) engine than on an OEM BWJ (K04) engine.

Things like rods and pistons can be swapped out quite easily for uprated ones though.

The standard internals should be able to cope with the increased power. This upgrade has been done many times on Mk5 gti,s. There has been the the occasional bent rod from aggressive tuning although this is rare.
The standard pistons have been ran at over 400bhp with no problems. Its the rods that are the weak point although many k04 upgrades are running 350bhp with no problems on standard internals.
Adding the s3/cupra cams will give a few extra bhp, maybe 10? but its not worth the cost of installing them IMO.

20bhp is possible. Revo's TT is running 340bhp vs the 360bhp in the Cupra. The TT is a K04 converted car running and OEM engine.

Yeah they cant tune the k04 converted cars as aggressively as the k04 equipped ones.
The compression ratio is higher and dettonation occurs if the tuning is pushed too far

Not sure that the compression ratio makes that much of an odds as the S3 engine and Cupra/Ed30 engines run different compression ratios but tune to similar figures.

Even though the ko4 engines are stronger the differences may not be huge. My ko3 engine is running nearly 290bhp(288) and is coping well.

Dans K03s engine ran well with 100bhp more than that mate although when he upgraded the rods, one was slightly bent. It is torque that hurts the engine more than power though.
