Hi all,

Please could any one help me my engine management (pollution) light has come on after hitting a badger *********** on the way home from work sat night. As you can imagine it made an almighty bang and nearly biffed me off into the armco.

Also i need to know what is the best oil and oil filter to buy?

Thank you.

Dan

p.s you make a nice stew with him?

I hit a pheasant before in my previous car and it made a gruesome mess  but it didn't do any damage. I was picking bits of mashed pheasant out from the grille and radiator for hours

I'm surprised it didn't damage the bumper as badgers are quite a solid animal!!

I'd check with VAG-COM to see whats been logged

I'd expect to see something like this:

VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-US

Alternatively I reckon your lambda sensor could have been dislodged by the badger's face. About £80 if I recall, although it is definitely a vagcom job first.

Oh and as for your other question about oil, I'm sure you will get loads of different suggestions but I bought 5 litres of Millers XF 5W 30 longlife for £50 a couple of weeks back and that is supposed to be top notch stuff. Other than that it's the usual fully synthetic suff - Mobil 1 etc etc.

Can't help with the EM light issue although nice to hear that you kept control of the car.

In regards to oil, use a 5w30 fully synthetic oil for VAG 504.00 and as bozwellox says, millers is good stuff. For an oil filter, i'd just go with a genuine VAG one.

better to hit a badger than an oncoming car. sorry mate but that is daft.

it was a dual carriage way, unless someone is driving on the wrong side of the road don't think there ll be any one there????
