Unlocking the "anti theft" ariel!

:help:Hello folks, i purchased a "bee sting" type ariel for my 03 1.4 16v SE sport Ibiza, and could not undo the ariel, i checked my user manual and read it was an anti theft ariel, so i took my purchase back to halfords. However, on surfing the net today i spotted a picture of an exact same model as mine with the ariel changed for a "bee sting" type ariel.

any one with tips on how to undo the "anti theft" ariel??

mucho gracias!

Mine took a proper good pulling session mate! Support the base with one hand (so you dont pull it off) and give a sharp tug with the other!! they do come off, trust me!! lol

I did this today, So I can give you my personal input.
They always said in car washes to remove the ariel and I could never get it off.

Unscrew it
Keep unscrew it and then it should slide out a little bit if you pull it,
Only a little bit and then it wont come out any further as its caught on a lip

^^

Essentially that Lip you can see on the end of the Ariel prevents it just coming off if loose or being stolen,

I held the black base pushed downwards on it as I pulled up on the Ariel and tried like very angle.
Nothing seemed to work, I tried it one last time and It came out easier than the times I'd done before.

So its patience, Keep trying and wiggle it about.
You'll get there eventually.

I did this the other day, was having a nightmare with it.

In the end I used a small pair of pliers and used them to lever the arial out, was dead easy doing it that way. Just be careful you dont slip with them!

unscrew it all the way till it just spins, then lay it almost horizontal so its kinda inline with the roof itself then a quick sharp yank should see it off....

is the car old? it may be a bit corroded?

Just some info... you don`t need to remove the standard aerial completely for automated car washes: if you unscrew it until it goes loose, then fold it flat on the roof, you can then screw it back in and it will stay flat to the roof while the brushes batter your car to bits!

I would lay mine flat but the car wash would catch it and not damage the car but it would bend the ariel vertically then when the tension was too great it would slid and slap the roof of my car......

Never caused any damage, but its terrifying!

for the love of god & your clear coat don't use a car wash!!!!!

I`ve used them twice my whole life... they are brutal! Worst thing you can do to your car other than crash it! Hand wash, two buckets!
