Hi All :)

Im looking to convert my mk4 100PD to an automatic. The reasons behind this are 2 fold.

1. im sick of changing gear
2. im now doing a lot of miles.

Anyway i was wondering the feasibility of this? I will be able to carry out the work myself but need to know what part may be involved and so on.

Does anyone here own a mk4 Ibiza PD with an auto box?

Anyway all help is much appreciated [B)]

Yeah i know what you mean but i stand to loose at least 2k on this car! Cant believe that the market has betrayed me (lol)

I have done similar, all be it the other way round, on an old scirocco. Yeah it was a more simplistic system but i think there will be things about the Ibiza that lend them selves to the conversion - e,g fly by wire throttle etc.

i would think that it would cost you more then you stand to loose tbh. i converted my old renault 5 from auto to manuel and it involved changing gearbox, torque converter, pedal box, gear shifter and mech, centre console, brake marster cylinda and servo errrrrr and thats all i can think of for now

I think it would a a bit of work but not a huge task (cant be worse than fully building a 16v scirocco from a base model), its often done on Mercs in both directions so I'm keen to find out.

I could do with seeing an auto in the flesh or getting hold of a copy of etcka or whatever that VW programme is.

positive thinking :funk:

Sounds like a fairly major job that. Perhaps you could just stick to using a manual - and think about all the money your saving:D Both on parts and fuel (automatic more thirsty)

Unless I'm mistaken I don't think the PD100 ever came with an auto box - certainly not in this market, so I'm not sure where you'll get the box from - VW?

I have not seen a pd with and auto box either. Maybe a Polo would do the job.

Ill see if i cant find some parts on vag cat as suggested above.

thanks

People change engines and it would be cool to build a one of ibiza :)

I have build a few customer cars now (16V scirocco and 4x4 golf mk2 gti etc) and would like an auto Ibiza.

I do however agree that cost may be prohibitive - but if i can pick up the auto box cheap from , for example, a crashed Polo it may be worth while.

i knew a bloke who had one arm but enjoyed off roading he made a suzuki samuria automatic. i know thats not even in the vag family but might give you the enthusiasm as they didnt do an auto suzuki samuria. he managed and he had one arm.
maybe a fabia autobox would go on.

A good point, but I'm not convinced it's worth the effort and outlay just because the OP is

Dont do it ! I have an auto arosa. Purchased due to a medical condition with my knee and whilst I love my car to bits, Im getting a little bored of it being an automatic. You will miss gears and it really doesnt make that much difference on long journeys at all.

The other alternative is a swap ;) which I very much doubt will be an option he he he :D
