Haldex conversion for 1.8T

Has anyone done anything like this to a SEAT? Mine has a 4x4 floor plan with the independant suspension, so in theory shoud be quite simple to do. Which parts have people used? Audi TT, RS32, Audi S3 bits? Anyone got any idea of the cost of the parts?! The car isn't road legal, for track and race use only.

Not sure anyone's done this - the only people would be those with a 4x4 already

I think any rear parts would be fine for you, remembering you'll need a new gearbox (and lsd)

I think it'd probably ruin the car, how much power are you running that you need it?

Well power wise anything from 350-500 bhp so FWD won't cope. It's ok currently with 300 bhp, but anymore and I will lose time coming out of the corners. So I think it could ruin it without

Having the 4x4 floorpan and independant rear suspension which I believe on a leon will be like a 4motion in theory it shouldnt be so much work to do. You will probably find you need custom prop and driveshafts and I dont know how the haldex would be controlled by the management but you have a good choice of transfer boxes as you would have to make the bracket to hold it anyway. As Mork saidd you would need a different gearbox and Im assuming you would want 6 speed. I think you are looking at at least £2k to do it.

Think I'll look into it a bit further, sourcing the parts will probably casue the biggest headache!

Parts shouldnt be too bad. Driveshafts and prop shaft and transfer box bracket will be custom made. Main oem parts you need is the gearbox and transfer box. As yours is a racer it should be simpler to do than a road car.

Think the wheel base is slightly different length but it might be close enough.

Length won't be a problem, I can get the prop modded to suit. Will look into the Haldex control in the next few days Bill, I believe there are a few options readily available.

With regards the transfer box mounting I may be able to use the donor cars front subframe, if not a bracket will need to be fabricated.

Hopefully I can find some parts at a good price, will definately improve traction in the future...

I have just seen a TT side by side with a Mk1 Leon on the ramp and its all very similar, the 4wd stuf will bolt of the Leon no probs, might need to move the swirl pot though.....and getting an exhaust to do those power levels and a propshaft over the subframe is a challenge

Speak to JabbaSport, they have just done this job with an Audi TT so know what is involved.....and they have been working on my Mk1 Seat Leon Cup car so know the lay out and the problems inside out.

If you would like to have a quick assesment of mine you are quite welcome....trust me the power delivery is second to none...even without the 4wd....with the 4wd you can boost up the power even further.

I know of an R32 with full running gear etc for £600, includes Diffs, props, brakes etc oh and the nice VW motorsport front suspension struts!!!

please please please can i come see your car?? i really good at sweeping up and making tea, serving jaffa cakes, wiping up oil etc etc!!

there's a chap on ukmkiv's that started with a 1.6 goof and ended up with the 4 motion and I'm sure he's running an emerald ecu. link is here, it's a thread that's mostly about polishing, but i'm sure you can pm him:

iirc there's a controller for perm 50/50 but it aint cheap

yeah but if there isnt anything to control that controller then nothing will work.

Got most of the parts here needed to change it to 4wd inc 6spd quattro box, rear section of propshaft, front and rear driveshafts and can get all the other bits too. SQS do their own form of haldex controller. Exhaust is easy to make, but you may need a new downpipe to clear the prop.

Now that would be very kind of you Ian, let me know when that would be possible. To be honest looking at your lap times I'm thinking circa 400bhp will be fine through the front wheels, especially if I get some 9's.

I have all the panels we were talking about on the car now, wings, bumper, rear hatch, front splitter that works great and lexan windows. Will be making a new rear bumper, doors and a bonnet in the coming months. Car looks quite mean now!
