I have a Seat Ibiza Cupra Sport Gti (97). Owner's Manual says to insert key to be programmed into ignition, turn it til dash lights come on, hold for no more than 5secs and withdraw. You now have 20secs to complete the programming by holding down the LOCK button and pressing the UNLOCK button 3 times, then release the lock button. When you do this, the fob should flash it's LED 5 times and you're done. This has worked for me without any problems before now, hence remembering the sequence, but, I just recharged my 12v battery, and replaced the batteries inside the fob, and the first attempt at re-programming did not work. I'll be looking to replace the fob batteries with others that I bought from HK (more likely to be fresh than ones bought at local shop?) + try again. Hope that helps.

And don't give up if it does not work first time, if you press the key buttons in the right order, the key led will always flash 5 times, but if the car's system is not ready to re-sync with the key nothing will happen. If you are successful, the car will attempt to lock/unlock. Also, to get the car out of the re-sync or "learn" mode, you need to turn the ignition on for maybe 30 seconds - do this if you are having problems so that everything starts from scratch - and also do this after you have sorted the key, though its not really absolutely necessary as driving the car will also have the same effect. Good luck!
