Is there not a requirement to change after time, say four years if it comes first? I remember buying my car on 58k and asking about cam belt, i remember everyone telling me it was well over due because of the age of the car. :think:

Get it done pronto i say, dont want that ruining your ibiza time.

Yep thats true. With my dad's Civic it was 50,000-60,000 miles or 60 months, whichever comes first.

Id change it on a car of that age almost regardless of mileage anyway if you dont know when its done.

Incidentally, when you get it done, make sure the mechanic understands that three pulleys have to line up with timing marks, the extra one being the oil pump pulley. If thats not done your dizzy will be slightly out and you might get a 5k rev limiter issue.

Anyhow a gates kit is about 40 quid and about an hour to fit approx.

Thanks for all your replies......Have phoned around the local garages today and i have to say that my local seat dealer is cheaper than any of the independant garages .....they are going to do the tensioners and belt for £160inc......my cheapest back street was £200 + vat so its off to the stealers next week to get done.......

On any car ive ever bought the Cambelts the first thing I get done, regardless of when it was done before, its amazin how many people dont give it a second thought even though if it goes its big trouble. The interval should be less than 60K if you do regular short journeys aswell, I get mine done every 40K just to be on the safe side, my last one cost me 175 notes for all 3 belts, so for 170 at the stealers aint bad at all.

Rob, you mention the Gates Kit costing about £40. Where would I be able to get this from? Cheers.

Other outlets are available, however I got mine from these people;

Mine was the 2E kit which is cheaper than the others.

Ive just bought a diesel (sigh groan lol) for some reason the kit from gates is 170, they must be making it from the messiahs nasal hair for that price! Anyone know why its so expensive?
