i went down to leeds last night for a gig, and back of course - about 150 miles total.

was in no rush to get there, filled up on my way out of my home town, and used cruise control the entire journey

50mph in the 20-30 miles of national limit A roads, and 60-65 on the motorways and dual carriageways.

then on the way back cruised at 70 all the way back.

averaged 60mpg on the way down, and 57 on the way back. 150 miles of fuel used, and the computer tells me i can do about 450.

obviously this is if i continue to drive like that for the other 450 miles, and is an estimate, but still, i'm more than happy with that considering my 1.4 16v sport never saw 300 miles out of a tank!!

1.9TDI all the way - forget the extra purchase cost and fuel cost. its worth it.
just ride the torque, low revs, and it just sips fuel whilst still overtaking the 1.2s out there with ease.

So if I were to look at the 1.9tdi, not the FR with about 40-50K with good history etc.

03-04, what would i look to be paying?

my bro just got a 1.9TDI Sport 2003. 130bhp.

Sport 130 is what they replaced with the FR, so basically it is an FR in a lower insurance group due to its different styling - no FR badges, hidden exhaust, less fancy wheels etc.

50k miles, good history, for £3500, which was cheap. I'd say you'd normally be looking at 4k to 4,500.

I've just bought a TDi FR and i'm amazed the average mpg over it's last 2900 miles is 59.8mpg. That's almost double what my Subaru Legacy 2.5se used to get and about the same performance.:funk:
Wonder what the next 2900 miles will get after it gets a custom code map tomorrow, and my lead foot stuck to the carpet lol.

My 1.9 FR TDi gives me between 45-50mpg on very short 6 mile trips to work. Also happy with the £120 road tax :D Oh by the way dont believe the computer it lies :(

i wouldn't say it lies, i think it estimates based on your current driving.
if it tells you 45mpg on a 6 mile journey its only very rough estimate based on those 6 miles.

if it tells you 55mpg on a 500mile average tank i think it pretty accurate.

I drove fairly sensibly for a whole tank, which takes some work not putting the foot down. over the 450 miles travelled before decided to fuel up, the computer said i'd averaged 50.0mpg over those 450 miles.

when i used a calculator to work it out, it was 49.7

You lot are the :censored::censored: that i get stuck behind!

Let me tell you this, if u are getting over 45 mpg in a seat ibiza fr (130), you shouldnt be on the dam road!

I get between 36-42 average - thats what you should be expecting from this car if you lets say use your right foot at all!!

mine gets it fair share of tyre kicking drives thanks.... on the trips to the cinema, to the shops, etc, but when i drive 60 mile a day for work i like to get there A) in one piece and B) with some fuel left to get home.

kicking its arse for 300 miles a week will use a tank. driving normally will give me 2 weeks' journeys. do the maths!

Just checked mine (Tdi130), over 607 miles... 61mpg.

I`d say that`s 50/50 urban and carridgeway.

I don`t think your model has it... if you do there will be two buttons on the end of the wiper stalk, and another underneath for mode/reset.

if you dont have a computer on your car work it out yourself. its more accurate anyway.
miles over litres times by 4.54 gives you mpg

eg 440 miles divided by 40 litres, gives 50mpg near enough.

just fill your tank to the point the pump clicks off next time you fill. and the time after do the same, fill to thepoint it clicks off (preferably at the same station so you use the same type of pumps if you're wanting it real accurate) and make a note of the miles done between fills.

or use this website http://www.torquecars.com/tools/uk-mpg-calculator.php

it remembers your last 4 entries giving u a better average over 4 tanks, tells you cost per mile in fuel too.
