LC Milltek cat-back non-resinated - fitted today!

Took the LC upto Awesome today to have a cat-back non-resinated Milltek fitted - and the drive home was indeed awesome!

I've been thinking about gettinga new system for a while now... and now that it is fitted I wish I had done it sooner. The big question I needed an answer to was how a non-res system would sound inside the car, it also seemed to be a question that others were asking as well.

So my review/opinion would be - non-res was the right choice. As soon as the ramp was lowered down and the techy reached in to start the car it sounded bl00dy great, it fired into life with a nice deep boom that stopped the conversation I was having in the waiting/gallery area and me and another customer both said that sounds good.

So the drive home was 70 miles and it had all the types of road needed to work out if I like the sound or if it was to much. Soon as I drove off I pulled over to ring the wife (... like you do when you've spent money) and the car was ticking over with a steady slightly deeper burble than OEM.

After a few miles I was onto the motorway and when crusing around 70-80 there appears to be little or no more noise, which was a big relief cause my biggest fear with the non-res system was enountering drone when crusing.

After the motorway there was a little town driving, sitting in traffic and pulling away gave me the chance to see how would be for everyday driving. Pleased to report that it was louder but not chavy - just deep and solid.

The final test came on the twisty up/down section and this is where the system came alive. I got stuck behind a caravan and as soon as I'd come out of a harpin I nailed it past (in a safe manor ) and at top revs in second the pipe gave a little pop at the same tine as the DV letting go :D . It was hailstoning a few minutes later and so I had to back off which was OK cause I just kept blipping and changing gear for the bends. It just sounds so good that I couldn't stop griining!

The only time I encountered any drone from the new system was when I dropped the car into 3rd to let the revs control the speed down a steady decline. The car stayed around 3.5k for a good few seconds and it did seem to hang on a heavy drone. But it wasn't the end of the world and by the time I'd got home I hadn't noticed again.

The pic's don't do the tail pipes justice cause they look a lot better in the flesh and fill the bumper cut out just right. Looking down from above they stick out a littler further than OEM but still have the slightly staggered finish to follow the lines of the bumper.

... oh and on a final note - the system has already started to sound deeper and fuller after only 70 miles. Once its had a few weeks to coke up I think it will sound even better.

(excuse the dirty car - by now it had done 140 miles encountered a dust storm on the M1 and hailstones on the snake pass).

thanks traumapat!

thanks Richie-FR - won't be able to get a sound clip. Can't see the wife agreeing to stand around while I drive off/past... plus I always think wav/mpeg files sound a little naff when done on a phone by the person driving. Have to agree on the quality as well it does look well put together with quite tidy welds.

I had the resonated version of the cat-back system on a previous Leon and it was great, if a little quiet. I'm getting a full non-resonated Milltek system with downpipe and sports cat in the next couple of weeks, should sound nice and unleash about another 10 bhp.

Cupra-Ross - I really wanted to take advantage of the Awesome offer at the moment and also go for the full system, but funds would not allow. But even the cat-back seems to help the car rev a little more freely.

I'm aiming for around the 230-235bhp mark so hopefully I'll get there without having to splash out on a dp and cat/decat. Next up for me is a remap and front mount cooler.

I've managed to scrape the cash together while the offer is on, just

Mine was RR'd at 235bhp with the standard exhaust and intercooler so I think your goals are achievable. Front mount will help but questionable whether the cost warrants it for such a power output. Mine made the above power with Custom remap, forge tip and dv and a Jabba induction kit. It was 25bhp down last weekend at the Northeast RR day but thankfully power was restored after cleaning the MAF. I'm hoping for about 245-250bhp with the turbo back Milltek on.

I want a FMIC mainly to help hold the boost - plus I just want one. I've got a THS TIP and DBM ready to go in - wanted a forge TIP but couldn't justify the extra money.

Did you clean the MAF using PAB's guide on the main page. If you did where did you get the alcohol from?

Must admit FMICs look great and will definitely help avoid heat soak at anything higher than 15 deg C outside temperatures.

I'm a bit of an old hand at MAF cleaning mate. I used Halfords own brand Electrical Contact Cleaner which come in an aerosol can. Basically Isopropyl alcohol.

Remove Maf and clean the outside of the MAF tube thoroughly to ensure you don't get any crud from the outside onto the sensor itself. Place in an open ziplok bag and spray cleaner directly onto the sensor pole inside the little grille. Continue spraying until theres a reasonable amount of cleaner in the bag. Seal up the bag and slosh the cleaner through the sensor from side to side for a few minutes. Remove from bag and either leave to dry naturally or use a hair-dryer. You'll notice lots of little black particles in your cleaning fluid that were previously attached to the MAF film. Refit to car and test-drive.

Definitely a good idea, I didn't realise I was down on power until it went on the rollers. Lesson learned, clean maf before every RR day. I'm going to replace all of the vac hoses with silicone ones too.

... and there was me thinking you were hiding from me!

Yesterday was the first time I've ever driven the Snake Pass - cracking road a gental blast. Would'nt want to go to fast cause some of them drops look nasty. Great road to test out the new pipe.
