I don't think this is normal but on ignition the car idles at around 1000rpm and then settles between 700-900 after a few minutes. The vibrations at 1000 can be felt through the drivers seat which to me is abnormal. Does this indicate anything specific to anyone?

Are you talking about the initial 30 seconds or so after starting when cold? There's alot going on when things are first started, it was the same with my Vectra V6. Any one of them could be causing the issue, but they all only last a few seconds.
If it still vibrates at 1000 rpm when the engine is up to temperature, then its time to look at other things.
I'm assuming there's no fault light?
But its still only on start up? Whats it like when its up to temperature, is it smooth then?

Is it possible one of the coil packs may be close to going faulty, I'm thinking contracting/expanding connection depending on temp?
It's definitely worse on start-up but does settle to a more acceptable level after being driven and warmed up. However the vibrations are there through the engine while the engine is on at rest e.g. at the lights. There is a significant difference between the smoothness and noise level of the V5 (at rest) and my previous 10 year old Civic and a 4 year old 1.6 Golf. It might be a bigger engine but I shouldn't be able to feel the engine vibrating through my seat like old diesels.
I did try this on my own, when it was warm. At exactly 1000 rpm while stationary and in idle, there is a distinct vibration that can be felt through the car. However, at its tickover between 800 and 900 rpm, I don't feel it. I also don't feel it driving along, as 30 in fifth is about 1000 rpm and I've done a few miles like that.
I wonder whether your problem is not necessarily the vibration, but more your idle speed. If you're idling at 1000 rpm, I believe that is too high. But my car definitely has the same vibration at that particular RPM.
If anything the V5 should be smoother than a four pot, only when really going for it do you get the growl and the shake of the bigger engine.

Mines has no vibration on starting from Cold. Revs sit at a little over 1000rpm and soon settle down to about 700 or 800rpm. Sounds like yours does the same, but you get this vibration when the engine is cold and the revs sit a little higher than normal tickover?

Mine idles at 1200 when cold, but very quickly drops to 800, then when the engine is fully warmed up it ticks over at 650rpm.
