Hi,

Just had the car back from the garage and as the title suggests I have 11 fault codes [:@] that wont clear. The car is running ok but the TCS and diagnostic light came on so thought i'd get it checked. The mechanic listed the codes for me. The codes that have came up are:-

ABS - 0522 - Engine cont with unit
1425 - Tank vent short - ve
1435 - Secont Air relay short - ve
1289 - Exhaust superchrger short - ve
0102 - Air mass signal low
1117 - O2 bank 1 sensor 2 short - ve
1114 - O2 bank 1 sensor 2 resistance too high
1115 - O2 bank sensor 1 bank 1 short - ve
0134 - oxygen sensor - no signal
0140 - O2 sensor bank 1 no signal
1547 - Boost valve short to ve

The mehcanic has advised it may be a bad earth and if they were to have a look at it, it could cost a fortune for labour (£40 a hour) to find the bad earth.

Has anyone had anything like this before and if so what did you do?
Any familar bad earth points etc i could check myself? :help:

The car is standard apart from induction kit and cat back exhaust.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I had this on my cupra, turned out to be one of the sensors ontop of the rocker had dropped off & the rubber surround had melted causing it to short on the engine block, I had about 15 codes.....blatently an earthing problem i reckon

Thanks for the replys. Checked the fuses and fuse 8 is blown (thanks Sparkie) so i've changed it over. Just need to see if i can get someone to clear the fault codes now. Preferable not one who chrges £40 quid. Wish i checked here 1st before i put it in the garage. :censored:

Cheers!

happened to me as well :) replaced the fuse, but also checked the wires and made sure it wasn't shorting anywhere.

bascially the resistors on the n249 were catching on top of the engine due to the electricians tape wearing through.. so was shorting out. sorted this and no more problems :)

Tried that Sparkie and nobody got back to me. The TCS light on the dash has now cleared so its only the diagnostic light thats left, hopefully it should clear no probs now. I may have this wrong (think i read it on here) but if i disconect the battery for a while will the code disappear once i reconnect it.
Car is running much better now (or is it in my head :D) just by changing a fuse

After the car running ok for a few weeks I now have the same problem again. [:@]
The car was serviced and got some new rubber on the front wheels so afer few days thot i'd give it a wee blast along the road. Under heavy accelation i felt a judder and the same diagnostic light came back on and i couldn't get the TCS light back off. Checked the fuse, and it had blown. So i changed it and the TCS light went off. Car running fine.
Then today again under some heavy accelation the same judder, light on and fuse blown.
:censored:
So i now have the problem of fuse 8 (10 amp) blowing everying time i put the foot down. Anyone have any ideas before i take it to a garage again?

Thanks.

lol, bodger :)

only thing is (in my opinion as an electrician) if its been designed for a 10 amp then you may end up doing some damage to the cabling before the fuse blows

I had the same thing and couldn't figure out why. so I stuck in a 15amp fuse and its been fine since.
got to love it.........sparkie shorly the wires in the circit would be able to handle more than 10amp anyway the fuse is only there as a fail safe incase there is a voltage spike above the specified limit isnt it..? If its throwing up 4 o2 sensor faults then the problem must lie there are they grounded atall..??

The fuse is to protect against over current in the event of a fault, if the cables can't take 15 amp they will burn an you have the potential for a fire. Seen if so many times in houses it's unreal

were you the same electrician who wouldn't place a resistor where the N112's are, due to possible complications?
