i'm getting my ARB replaced under warranty! went in for 1st service and told them about knocking noise when car under steering lock and going over humps, pot-holes, etc. and SEAT found the ARB is damaged.

car is going in again on monday so should i try get them to put in Cupra bushes on on my FR? how much would they charge roughly?

To replace the ARB the subframe has to be dropped in order to get the bar out. Whilst the subframe is dropped it's fairly easy to replace the TCA rear bushes. The Cupra bushes cost roughly £8 each and it should only take them an hour approx to change them (they should be fairly skilled at replacing them by now!)

Just make sure that the new ARB that they are fitting comes with metal bush retainers :)

Sorry to sounds dumb but you all seem to be talking about the Whiteline rear ARB is the originally post not talking about the front standard ARB corroding. Is it only Jabba who make a replacement aftermarket one for the front (the one that is v expensive if I am right as well)?

Yup the OP origionally was asking about the front ARB. Eibach also make a uprated front ARB. I'm quite happy with my revised 21mm Fabia ARB and it cost a lot less than the other options.

The metal bush retainers are part of the ARB. The older ARBs have plastic bush retainers which perish and fall off, which then allows the ARB too much free movement, causing it to knock against the subframe. I wish I had taken a pic of mine before I fitted it..... Would be so much easier than putting what I mean into words! Basically on the new ARB there should be two metal rings which are welded to the bar. These rings sit next to the rubber bushes and stop the ARB from moving too much. I hope that makes sense lol

The Cupra bushes that you want fitting are called front Track Control Arm rear bushes. Just to avoid any confusion with Seat

thanks for the info altech  spoken to the guy at SEAT who is, as always, very helpful (Spur Garage Wimbledon)

they noticed slight perishing to the ARB and rear bushes so decided to replace it all at once under warranty rather than have it made worse until next time it goes in. he told me that the part numbers of my gearbox mounts and bushes are all the same or newer revised parts than the Cupra (which could be true as mine is an '08)...apart from one nearside mount which is non-Cupra spec

if all is true i'm pretty chuffed :D

Think I've started to get this on my Fabia VRS, knocking noises at low speeds and when turning right, but nothing turning left?

I've checked the ARB and it looks OK but its starting to rust underneath the bush

It has been said that the later non-Cupra TCA rear bushes are better than the original non-Cupra - but I'd say get them to fit only the Cupra solid bushes, I'd reckon that the newer better bushes have 4 webs instead of two - as they would be if they are the same as the rubber part of the newer Golf/Leon/Octavia.

NickyJam, just one other point, if your car is this new then you will not have had the dodgy original ARBs fitted either at the factory or when replaced, so I wonder what new problem these VAG newer ARBs are suffering now!?! I'd be asking your dealer that very question.

cool...willl do mate. all i know for now is that there was no real problem with either the ARB or the bushes, however, as i mentioned it they offered to replace them all under warranty

guys at Wimbledon Spur have always been good. the mechanics are down to earth as well

right...just picked up my car

apparently the ARB bushes were completely demolished, hence, the knocking when turning and going over bumps...feels a lot sturdier now, much less body roll. nothing wrong with the actual ARB itself i believe

i was told that they most probably replaced all bushes and housings with better ones than originally installed...but with mine being an '08 can't understand why they wouldn't be the newer ones anyway

They probably did? Not really a good answer either they did or didn't, if they have not and the warranty runs out and they fail then you will be pissed! Get a proper answer and then proof ie a warranty claim invoice with part numbers on it as I wouldn't believe them if them if they can't give you an answer!

the woman behind the service desk said they most probably did whilst she looked at the warranty invoice...forgot to ask for a copy as i went up to the parts department to ask about electric folding mirrors

will most probably be back there so will get a copy...hopefully they won't mess me about and replace the old ones with the same style ones

however i still got another 2 yrs warranty so if they go again still got one more chance ;)

Yeh best to get the invoice saves any argument if they went wrong and I'm sure would give you peace of mind to know what parts they have used.
What do they mean the older style ones though that was form 2004 onwards they stopped using plastic bits on the ARB bushes? I'm not even sure if my car has plastic ones as its 54 but I'm replacing it all anyway as I want a better ride quality.

Looks like they fitted the 19mm ARB and associated bushes, bolts and nuts. And the front wishbone bushes are the same as those fitted to the Cupra.
