can we compare MPG to tyre types?

I have had falken 452s on for 12month got 24k out of em and saw average of 40-46 (no trip computer)

At the start I think I got closer to 50 had Kumho SPT's tho very cr@p I thin k I was getting better MPG's

got Flaken ?ZE912's? right now they seem to be grip wise very nice 4 price but my MPG hasnt gone above 45 since Im running em at 32 PSI 205/55/16 any tyre guru's like to comment plz do!

bear in mind you will get more accurate consumption figures if you calculate your mpg properly.

I've got a 110 tdi and tank to tank generally get 45mpg. Have seen above it a couple of times, but not really lower.

Doesn't seem to move much regardless of what I do :D.

I do drive quickly though, although that doesn't mean I'm ragging it.

Once the old girl is warmed up and on a decent run I do get high 40s and thats sitting @ 80+ on the m.way so cant really grumble.
Was just feeling left out of the 50+ club :)
Mind you,my old ST170 was absolutely appauling mpg wise, and no where near as quick as my FR :p

I think alot depends on how you drive.

I do the same journey to work and home every day and have had as little as 40mpg and as much as 55mpg. If there is a stream of traffic so I can only do 40 - 70 the whole journey I'm going to get into the 50's, if Im in the mood to overtake a lot or if there is no traffic slowing me down its going to be the low 40's

Mpg - Tyres

I changed my Dunlop Sp1's for Falken 452's at the weekend and have noticed a drop of around 3-4 Mpg !. To be honest if i'd have been aware of this before i bought them i'd have bought another tyre.

In there defence though my car does ride smoother and i can feel them sticking to the road a lot better, however i dont feel that the additional performance of this tyre is worth sacrificing 4 mpg for.

At the moment my non-moded tdi 130 is showing me about 46 mpg on the trip and thats with normal shell and 2 1/2 caps of millers per tank so real mpg is about 42 to 43 mpg. This may be normal for a car with 92,000 on the clock however all the filters have been changed and the car regularly serviced so i'd have hoped the Mpg would have been better. I drive like Miss daisy 70 to 80%, i.e never above 2200 rpm on my 10 mile trip to work but when pushing it take it up to about 3000. Every 2 weeks i take it up to 4000 to clear the soot out...

Some tyres do have higher rolling resistance than others which will increase mpg but normally they can also offer better grip and general performance. Energy efficient tyres are poor on grip but low on rolling resistance so take your pick!;)

Have you checked the pressures ? If the ride feels less harsh and you've dropped a few MPG, I'd check the pressures are right. Most tyre places just guess at a pressure when they fit new tyres.

I suppose if I said my fabia's dash said I got 64mpg on way home last night, it wouldn't be good eh? Best way I have found to keep mpg high is to use the low down torque, where is little boost. Boost is what causes poor mpg, as it's related to fuel injection. Also, keep car in gear when off throttle on downhills as they use ZERO fuel in that state. Momentum alone keeps the engine alive.

I average around the 500 mile mark from a £45 fill-up of diesel, which is fine for me. A bit above 50mpg in reality.

Fine eh? Running 240 or is it 260 bhp lol?

I'm going to fill mine up next week and try it although it will be a fully loaded car :(

checked this am and they were about 3 psi down so topped them up. Funny though cos the guy asked what psi i wanted when they fitted the tyres. So either there gun was over reading or the garages gun i used this am was under reading..

I have a Leon TDI 150, usually get about 42-45 if I hammer it.

I can easily get 50-55 out of it on the way to work in a morning.

I managed to get an extra 5 or so average mpg by changing from Tesco fuel to Shell. It also went up slightly when I had it remapped.

I normaly get 53~55mpg thats driving 50miles a day on B/A roads
It only once dropped below 50 and that was because it was due a service and the fuel filter was blocked.

I do 400 miles a weekend including the a66, on that journey i am lucky to make 48 taking it easy, last week i went the other way to preston on the m6 and i had 55mpg with cruise set to 80, roads make a huge difference. Low mpg move house and job, fixed :)
