ok
in january i crashed my car, raped the sump, had to take all that apart for about 2 weeks, could this be a source of the water rather than my headgasket going

dipstick is clean, and the water level is good, just been on wiki answers and i dunno whatelse to do tbh

if you do short journeys all the time you get what ive always called toffee on the bottom of the oil cap its where condensation and oil have mixed. run some flush through go for an hour or so drive and do an oil and filter change also get the car revving a bit so the oil hits the top of the rocker cover.

ok cheers guys, cheers for the advice, but theres no water or oil in the exhaust fumes, no white puff, dipstick is clean, waters good, and the mayo isnt white as i first assumed, its kinda bronze, so i think i was lucky with some condensation, i may flush the system through on friday or saturday

This aint the head gasket!! unless its coming out of the exhaust too, thats where you can telll if a gaskets gone or not (as above post)

Short cold journeys contrubute to this mayo build up!! It was a misunderstood issue with all VW Gold MK2's and Mk3's , Polo's and Ibizas.

Before i bought my Ibiza cupra gti it had a creamy mayo type gunk on the oil cap but this was only due to the short jouneys thet guy was doing everyday.
The condensation in the engine was not burning off as the engin temps weren't getting up to temp. But now i drive it 14miles each way to and from work its burned it off and cleared the problem.

Are you only doing short journeys ?
Has it used coolent ?
