There is a flip key info thread in the MK4 FAQ section that goes way back and has about a million pages of very interesting reading. IIRC the info you need is within the first 4 pages.

You will see me posting on there a long time ago and I still have the same key working fine.

I pretty much read that thread from start to end, it answered many questions.

Looking around ebay today and found i'm still a little confused currently asking a few sellers about their items.

Some are selling half the flip keys ie, top end with new uncut blade and a new un programmed transponder. All you need is the remote section for it....not sure about all of these atm, however i was successful on buying some well priced mats yay....

Wish i hadn't brought this up now as i keep on being outbid on ebay! :censored:
I managed to get a flip key on ebay last night for £25.00.
Anyone in the central Scotland area know of anywhere that can cut these keys?

EDIT: Found plenty on YELL.com

Timpsons will do it for about £10 but they will give you the warning before hand that they are not held responsible if they break the blade

I got mine cut over ebay. You just take a photo of your blade and they cut it and post it out to you. Then you just swap the blades over in the flip key. Cost me £7 and I received it next day and worked perfectly

So you let someone cut a key blade for your car then send it to what i presume is the address that you keep your car at, wouldnt be me

It won't unlock the car without the transponder and they would have to try and guess which car is mine. They are an established locksmith that others have used. I presume you wouldn't let a locksmith change the lock on your house in case they broke in? :)

it'll unlock it, but it wont start it.

suppose its a bit of trouble to go to your house unlock your car, set the alarm off and then what? steal your stereo? they could just smash a window of an ibiza nearer to them!

as for the house scenario, surely they'd come to your house, change the lock and give u the keys, but i suppose yeah they could have kept a copy themselves.

pretty pointless comment sorry!
