Got ya. So the less CF the more you can advance the timing. Again.. dont see why you cant run 9 timeing aaron? Strange.. So how does the engine detect Knock?

There are two knock sensors bolted to the block just below the inlet manifold. They are like microphones and are tuned to the frequency of the ping from knock.

Their bolts need to be torqued accurately for them to work correctly.

nope. I need to get all the air the turbos moving into the engine first. Leaks around the intake mani gasket and throttle body. Too much happening in my life to get round to it at the mo

you must be expecting some impressive figures. im not surprised you have leaks with that much air... i dont think i will ever go that far but i really would love to.

what have you run on the rollers so far?

i think that would put a smile on my face too.. With that much power it doesnt matter if a few horses leak out here and there :)

well done John, thats an awesome engine.

threw a rod in my orginal engine with a lot less power, and broke 2 o2j boxes.
now on cupra r 6 speed, which is holding up well, but isn't subjected to huge torque, so should be fine.
More power comes from maintaining torque higher up thr revs. the peaks tend to be lower than with smaller turbos that make torque lower.
currently only running about 320lbft peak

to throw a spanner in the works, whilst looking through my toolbox i found the end of my old MAF housing. now Dave you wouldnt really be able to measure this from the outside but the internal bore (where the sensor is) is 72.2mm

im assuming this is what they would have worked to rather than the restrictions at both ends

Just been to look at an old 75mm od maf I have lieing around, and there's a step behind that screen, where it steps down to a smaller (69.8mm) diameter, which is where the sensor sits.

You can see the step in your photo if you look carefully

Thanks for looking John, i dont want to say you are wrong because i only have the ends of the MAF housing here and you are able to look into the housing to see if it steps down again. the step you can see in the photo is on the outside not the inside of the housing ie the stainless mesh you can see is nearest the sensor not the plastic strainer..

from the part i have here it looks like the bore where the sensor sits is 72.2mm but i cant tell if there is another step because i dont have the rest of the housing.

can you get a piccy if its not too much hassle, dont worry if its a real PITA
