After searching and looking through a lot of threads on here, I thought I would sum it all up and do a flip key step by step guide for the Leon.

One of the first things I will say is that (for me anyway) I paid no attention to the frequencys on the key. Just making sure that I brought a Hella version.

My leon Key is as you can see a 433 Mhz key and he one I brought from ebay was a 434 Mhz key and works the same
KEYSS.jpg

I brought the replacement key from ebay from autopartcentre the item I brought had this in the title VW VOLKSWAGEN GOLF MK4 BORA REMOTE FLIP KEY FOB as the link will expire
As he states it comes with a blank keyblade.

Reprogram new remote.
Hopefully you will have 2 keys - both with transponders in. I used 2 keys to do this.
1. Switch Ignition ON and leave keyONE in the ignition.
2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using keyTWO
3. Using the remote control(flip key)
press the UNLOCK button once, and the horn will sound once. (mine didnt)
4. Wait 6 seconds and press the UNLOCK button again to activate the coding procedure
and the horn will sound once.
The remote control will now be programmed. Happy days :funk::funk:

Now the blade swap
Prize apart old (remote in my case) key and remove transponder, little glass tube.
DO NOT LOSE as this is whats needed for the door/ignition in the new key.
The transponder in mine was lose, some maybe glued in, Meths/Nail varnish remover will soften this glue.

Prize open the flip key with a large flat bladed screwdriver here
Image695.jpg

The Blade of the flip key needs to be removed undoing the screw which has sneakily been hidden under a VW/Skoda badge. Badge can be prized out with a smallish flat blade screw driver. No need to worry about the old badge ehhh ;)
Image693.jpg

With the screw CAREFULLY removed, inside will reveal all. The silver button which you press, spring to create the flip and the blade itself and of course a old transponder. Throw away this as it is of no real use.

Insert your old transponder from seat key. No need to glue as its held in place from the other side of the key.

Get the blank blade cut. I know that Timpsons do this and these are pretty much everywhere. The new blank blade doesn't come attached to its swivel, so get Timpsons to knock out the pin of the old blade, and put your new cut blade onto the silver hinge piece.

Line up the 3 locators. It should only go in one way. Insert the spring so the bit that sticks out from the spring is at the top. Twist spring, so it engages inside the button.
Image696-1.jpg

You have to reload the spring so that it flips open. To do this insert other side of key from above, onto the key hinge. The rotate, counter clockwise once.
Image697.jpg

Hold together and rescrew the key back together. Popping the other end with remote and key loop back onto your new key.

Get on the web (fleabay) and search for a Leon flip key badge or something.

There we go job done. Remember the frequesncy (for me) was irrelevant

Hope this helps someone. [B)]

I think there is a few guides or threads with loads of info but they do drop down the pages over time.
Nice write up anyway. Maybe the mods can put this in the FAQ section but this isn't strickly Leon specific.

I know theres a few guides lying around, but wanted to try and get what I did on one post. Most of my info came from a ibiza post, so yeah it could easily apply to rest of the Seat range.

Yeah I got it out with a drawing pin, but thought while I was in there he could do it for me lol. Didnt want to loose the pin to be honest

My transponder was glued in a LOT !

I had to heat up a knife & melt my key to get it out lol.

Works a charm though & only cost about £15 to do (£12.50 for key, £2.50 to cut the blade)

what if i only have one key

You simply buy a new transponder from here: http://www.hickleys.com/diagnostics/keys_list.php?manu=40

Its the "AKTP2" one at £3 for the Leon.

Assuming you have your cars SKC code, you then get a mate with VAG-COM to sync the new immobiliser transponder with your car using this guide: http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/key-matching-4digit.html

If you don't know your SKC, you'll need to get the new key synchronised by a SEAT dealer or if you know anybody with VAG-TACHO (like me :D) they may be able to plug in and find out what the SKC is but this doesn't always work.

when you say use the flip key to unlock the car by pressing unlock button do you mean the new key remote?

let me make myself clear,i put the standard non remote key in the ignition and turn it on!!

then i take the old remote that still works,(in my case) then lock the drivers door with the key remote but not pushing the lock button, turn key in lock instead!!

ok car then locks...

then do i press the new remote im programming to unlock the car? unlock once then, wait 6 seconds them press unlock on the new remote again to programme?

is this rite?

i have already had the new blank key blade cut and fitted to my replacement remote..

Alright, had my key cut from Timpsons (£10 to get cut, but if there is any problems then it'll be covered :)). Just did this guide as I was going to pay £30 for a local car electrics place to program, and thought it couldn't do any hard.

The new key works fine, opens and locks the car, and starts the car. However, when I turn the ignition on (so the car is running) the light on the dash under the engine management light, which appears to be the Electronic Immobiliser continually flashes, which according to the owners manual shouldn't allow the car to start.

Have I done something wrong? I really don't want to be driving with this and the engine cut out or something.

When I got the car I only had one key, so I bought a second flip key from eBay, then I bought a replacement blade which I got cut the other day.

Will the second key need a new transponder? I was under the impression that the one that is already in it would be able to be re-programmed to my car?
