I know there are quite a few posts about this but I just can't seem to get my rear wiper off!!

I have sprayed god knows how much WD40 on it and it wont budge, I almost nearly broke the arm I was wiggling it so hard!!

Its quite rusty so is it possible its just on there for life??

Here is an image of what I'm dealing with:

It should just pull off right??

Can't see the image.

But yes, once the nut is removed it should pull straight off (after you've wiggled it etc).

Heard of some trying a screwdriver to gently leaver the arm off, have you tried that. Not wanting to state the obvious, make sure the body/window is well protected :)

before you go any further and break anything buy the wiper removal tool. its just a puller type tool with a thread on which pushes against the threaded spine it sits on and pull up on the wiper. should come straight off with this around £10 and may come in handy for the future..

You cant use a propper puller because u need to fit it to the wiper spindle and because on our cars this is plastic as its the washer jet u cannot use the tool, try tapping it with a small hammer but like said wd40 wiggle.

Quite a few different opinions! :D

I did try and lever it but the rubber bung underneath was feeling the pressure and was lifting up quite high and I don't want it to break.

I have a mate who is a mechanic perhaps he has the tool in question!?

Thx for everyones advice.

Its quite frustrating to have a new thing for the car and not be able to anything with it!

After a weekend of trying to get my old rear wiper off, I have come to the conclusion that I may have to cut it off!

It sounds drastic I know but I don't have any other options.

Anyone had resort to such crazy measures?

i found that by pushing down on the sprung bit (to the right of the view finder in that pic (out of view) and levering the lefthand side of what is in view it got the right angle to wobble off. hope that makes sense but where the spring was pushing the wiper down on the windscreen it was angling the arm against the sticky-out bit

Your correct that a puller will destroy the plastic bit, but there is a very simple way of protecting it, you leave the wiper nut on the spindle a few turns, put a small socket over the end so it rests on the nut and covers the plastic end, then use the puller as normal.

K3mist: A good way of pulling them is as uncleFester suggested, put the arm in the upright position, then physically pull and push on the wiper arm itself as opposed to the base, pulling and pushin on the same angle as the spindle itself, often this does free them, if its absolutely solid then a puller is definitely the best method.

To all who gave their advice - I managed to get the wiper arm off today with a little help from a hack saw! Turns out the aluminum center which holds the arm to the spindle had oxidised and fused itself to the spindle. Cutting through it weakened its hold and it came off quite easily.

Fabia wiper now fitted :D:D
