Rear Wiper Problem - Ticking noise

Hiya, not been on here for a while, but here goes:

First of all, when you use the rear wash/wipe does the spray fire vertically upwards, or track the wiper blade?
Up until a couple of weeks ago, mine always fired straight up, but after some cold weather, it seemed to be clipping the opening around the wiper mount, so i had a fiddle to adjust it and now for some reason it tracks the blade.
To be honest, it is now more effective, but does that mean that it hasn't been working right for 2.5yrs or it is now not working right?

Secondly, a couple of days ago, the rear wiper started making a fairly high frequency tick-tick-tick noise as the wiper sweeps. It is about the same frequency as if you say tick-tick-tick as fast as you can.
It then went away and has now come back. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? I found a couple of threads about removing the boot-lid lining to get at the mechanism and from the photo's it appears to be a sealed motor/gearbox so I wonder what ther is in there to go wrong?

I thought I'd see if anyone on here had heard a similar thing, before I pull my bootlid to bits and find there's nothing I can do!

I think the jet just goes vertically, although it can move through time and may need repositioned. This happened on my dad's MK3. The jet was actually spraying to the side of the screen and dribbling down the rear of the car.

Yeah, well mine used to spray vertically, which I assumed was correct, but now it's following the wiper and it does actually work better.
If it was only doing that I wouldn't mind but it's the ticking noise that's doing my head in. It sounds like something is catching internally (the best description I can give is the sound when you were a kid and stuck a bit of card to your bike frame so it made a 'motorbike noise' agains the tyre!)

Mine also did this but soon after it stopped working and filled the tailgate with fluid when I used it. I ended up having to have a new motor unfortunately

Oh balls. Cheers for that though. It might be worth me taking it to bits then and seeing if it's anything obvious that can be sorted. If not I will prepare myself for a new assembly.

Had the exact same problem with my 04 130 Sport.
Seat picked it up at a service.Put it on the report as 'rear washer turning on motor spindle'.As i very rarely use it,i just left it like that for a couple of years.
Then at my latest service(using a VAG independant), they fixed it.I didn't even bother telling them about the noise.I don't know what they did,they didn't mention it to me.Tightened up the assembly?.Can't have been much,i wasn't charged for it.
The nozzle moves with the arm,but i can't honestly remember if the jet used to go sraight up or not.

Cheers for that Torquemonster....I think I will definitely have it apart when I get a moment and see if I can fix it myself. If it persists I'll probably go for a scrappie replacement or something....

washer jet should just face up as far as i used it on mine... it such a hassle to get at it as there are a number of metal springs holding the back trim in place, and watch out for the screw in the handle, nearly broke that off as i didnt see it.
